Quick Shifts: 7 fast thoughts on early trade rental candidates
Wonder what Montour would cost. Perfect upgrade for our 3rd pair RD. Good, mobile, two-way defenseman, a bit Seidenberg-eske. Might not have to break the bank to get him either.
Lauzon-McCavoy
Grz - Carlo
Zboril - Montour
Isin't too shabby.
Hall is a non-starterRique is not the answer for this team. Forget that player and contract. Pay a high price for Ekholm out of Nashville freakin yesterday and then rent Hall at the deadline.
You wouldn’t even rent Hall at this point? I’m not thinking they should sign him long term.Hall is a non-starter
no, because he could've been drafted here or, instead of Craig Smith... signed here, instead, he chose Buffalo. You wouldn’t even rent Hall at this point? I’m not thinking they should sign him long term.
Hall is a non-starter
Before the Bruins game he hadn't scored any goals all season. He doesn't impress me. Would he be an upgrade here? Maybe. I dont know.Another goal by Palmieri to boost his value.

What do you think Nashville’s ask would be for Ekholm? Perhaps Vaak + 1st or perhaps they would prefer one of our better forward prospects? They have always struggled to nail down center ice even with good depth. Perhaps Beecher or Hall would be preferred.
I was all in on Hall when he was a free agent, but when he signed with Buffalo it told me that winning a cup wasn't important to him, a hard pass, I want players here who really want to win the SC.
I’m beginning to question whether I’d prefer to keep Bjork over DeBruskI don’t know what kind of packages it would cost to get BOTH Ekholm and Palmieri but I’d assume a combination of:
Vaakanainen, Lauzon/Zboril, 1st, Bjork, Lauko, 2nd, 3-5ths. I assume Boston wouldn’t move Studnicka in either deal. Let’s be honest though:
Marchand — Bergeron — Pastrnak
Ritchie — Krejci — Palmieri
DeBrusk — Coyle — Smith
Frederic — Kuraly — Wagner
Ekholm — McAvoy
Zboril/Lauzon — Carlo
Moore/Clifton — Miller
Clifton/Moore/Miller
Rask
this team has as good a shot to win it all as any.
If Cassidy doesn’t break Bjork which I don’t think he will I think Bjork turns out very goodI’m beginning to question whether I’d prefer to keep Bjork over DeBrusk
Great pointThey don’t want to protect 4D again, and they’re protecting Josi, Ellis, and Fabbro. So Vaak could make a lot of sense since he’s exempt, more so than a Zboril for example.
Amen!We have plenty of 3rd pairing defenseman types, Sweeney should be focusing his efforts on getting a true top 4 defenseman.

I would do that deal but Arvidsson is like the best bang for your buck player in the NHL outside of Pasta. My guess is Nash will keep Forsberg, Arvidsson, Fabbro and Duschene(mostly because of contract) no matter what.Ekholm would be awesome but why stop there. This could be Bergy last real chance of getting another cup but father time surely appears to be on his side so you never know, but Id be shooting for an Arvidsson coming back as well.
At the very least Granlund, would be a nice add with Ekholm.
Arvidsson and Ekholm
for
DeBrusk, Grizz, Vaak and a 2nd.
I've honestly never been a Taylor Hall guy myself. I think he's a talented low IQ hockey player. That said, I think they could use his talent. He's a guy that really needs to realize that he's a Phil Kessel piece to a Stanley Cup team.... not a Patrick Kane....
Generally, I think everyone wants to win a Stanley Cup. Can't blame him for going to what he thought was the best situation for him. These guys are influenced heavily by agents, family, and friends I'm sure.
