Good for Matz and I'm glad we weren't the ones to give him that. I feel like we were probably like a million more a year but wouldn't go to four type of thing

No QO for Matz probably rubbed him the wrong way; wasn't consistent enough for that commitment anyways, so glad we didn't sign him for 4 years.

Good luck Steven and thanks for your contributions last year.

11 per is cheap af for Matz. Who cares about that 4th year

Huge loss better getting working to replace that.

If we lose Ray we are donzo.

Lost our 2 best pitchers last year in Ray and Matz
Lost our 2nd/3rd best hitter and most clutch.

You can't replace that.

Sure, you can.

Ramirez or Chapman in for the hitter (assuming Chapman rebounds hitting in a hitter's park), Manea and Gausman for the rotation and we're similar if not better. Keep in mind that Biggio can't play 3rd and Espinal is the best D 3rd in the game, but would grade as an elite 2B as well. Moving that combo to 2nd actually increases their value.

Also, Semien isn't gone.

Now imagine this. What if we bring back Marcus and Ray, trade for Ramirez (maybe trading slightly more in prospects to make Grichuk part of the deal), trade for a young controllable starter (Cincy, Florida, Oakland), take a couple of middle range guys for the pen (McHugh for example)?

Nothing wrong with $11 million per year for Matz, but that fourth year makes it a no-brainer to pass.

The Jays probably need to add two starters. One needs to be better than Matz (Ray or Gausman or something) and if they get that pitcher I would be happy going with either another Ray/Matz-type reclamation project or a trade for a guy with a higher ceiling as the second (having said that, I still really like Jon Gray as a target for some reason even though he's the same tier as Matz). They still have other areas to address (the bullpen and 2B/3B) so I don't think that contract makes a ton of sense.

Gray has a weird home/road split. You'd think that pitching away from Coors would be better for him, but he has traditionally pitched better at home. He gets more grounders, which mostly become liners on the road.

lol chill out. First, Matz wasn’t our 2nd best pitcher. He was #3 at very best, #4 if you want to count in Berrios. He’s a back-end starter who had a nice bounce back year. Good for him to get a 4-year deal but I’m glad it wasn’t us that gave him that. There are plenty of back-end reclamation type projects like Matz available every year.

We are still very much in with Ray and Semien. Could see us lose out on Semien, but there are options to replace him. I know you are very impulsive and don’t put much thought behind your posts but you need to step off the ledge.

I’m very happy not giving him 4 years.

This will help us land another Matz type player. Come work with Walker and you will get a 3-4 year contract and/or a Cy Young.

I think Rogers centre might scare away some guys looking for 1 year deals, despite the recent successes we've had with these pick ups.

Lol the Mets owner is upset with Matz’ agent

Has there been any reports that the jays are beginning to work on deals for Bichette and Vladdy?
