I dunno, maybe it's me, but CRAZY numbers. Looks like Franco is obviously a good young player... but ONE year under his belt... .288 /7hr / 39 rbi's... and they throw down for what is getting close to a QUARTER BILLION DOLLARS. Crazy. SMH.

2nd 80 grade hit tool ever, ridiculous rookie season, looks like he'll stick at a premium position, produced in the minors like few before at his age. Guys like him simply don't bust. They're paying on average less than 20m for 12 years for a guy who's most likely going to be a MVP candidate starting this upcoming year. Absolute no-brainer deal for the Rays, and Franco is set for life.

He had a 43 game streak of safely reaching on base. During that same time frame he recorded more hits than swinging strikes... as a 20 year old that missed a year of development due to covid. 2022 projections already consider him a top 10 player at the age of 21.

I'm always in the take the sure thing when presented to you, but if there are no opt outs to this deal, its a pretty bad one for Franco.

EDIT: Also worth nothing that Trout made $264M from his aged 20-31 seasons and he did it with his first few years non guaranteed. So i guess it is around that number. If Franco is as good as Trout, he could make another $200-300M.
It's a great deal. That's 233mil. Who cares if money was left on the table.

They'll trade him when there's 2 years left and whoever acquires him may try to restructure and extend him.

Yankees release Frazier...interesting

Shapiro and Atkins drafted him in Cleveland. I bet they take a close look at him, especially if Gurriel is moved in a package for Ramirez or Chapman.

I’m all over bringing him in if Gurriel and/or Grichuk is moved. When healthy he can produce:

2017 - Rookie: .751 OPS in 28 games then got hurt
2018: .744 OPS in 15 games then got hurt
2019: .843 OPS in 53 games then got hurt
2020: .905 OPS in 39 games then got hurt
2021: missed most of 2021 with a “personal issue”

Like Gurriel, when is healthy and playing, he is useful.

He is a full year younger than Gurriel and at the very least he can replace Grichuk’s bat;

Grichuk’s career 103 OPS+ (100 with the Jays)
Frazier’s career 104 OPS+

White sox signed graveman. That would be the last team i thought would sign him. Going the yankees route. Starter gets 5 then bp it out.

Bold new White Sox strategy: What if you took everyone's favorite parts of the bullpen, the end pieces, and just made the entire pitching staff out of that? It's like the baseball equivalent of "why don't you make the whole plane out of the black box?" :sarcasm:

We should build fallout shelters out of cockroach shells.

I always figured Matz would be in the 3 year, $40 million range. He's not worth the QO per year, but $13-$14 million per seemed attainable. Could even get as high as $15 per year if its only a 2 year deal.

Have to imagine the next week 6 days will be busy, as teams make deals and free agents look to sign before the CBA expires and all that freezes

Sign Gausman
Sign Frazier
Resign Matz

Gausman
Berrios
Manoah
Ryu
Matz

Trade Kirk, Gurriel +prospect to Cleveland for Ramirez

Move Grichuk

Reasonable money but I’m glad we didn’t give him four years

Get Gausman or make a trade
