If true that Jays are after Bryant and Taylor, then I guess it's safe to assume they're not involved with trade talks regarding Chapman or Ramirez which is disappointing.
The price could be prohibitive for us, or maybe the value for one of them could be there to then use the same trade ammo for an upgrade elsewhere. There are so many moving parts likely going on.

Could look at it as they are in trade talks for one of Oaklands pitchers or Castillo. Cmon man!!! look for the positives!!

That is defitely the case. Go free agent route first. If that goes nowhere then can turn to trades. Atkins said this many times.

Or we are covering our bases and doing both at once.

If Ramirez costs our top 2 or 3 prospects, we aren't doing it. If Chapman costs a ton, we won't.

Maybe hearing that Bryant to TO is close might lower those prices.

Bryant is another leader type player. Love that we are trying to add as many good team guys as we can get our hands on.

Its not that black and white. They could have interest in all the mentioned players, but there are a multitude of factors at play.

ye, its the same as the ray/gausman situation. the jays should be talking to EVERYONE that they see as an upgrade and good fit. somebody outbids you for a FA or tries to use the team as leverage then you have already been working on the logistics of a trade and vise versa.

The jays and guardians likely already have a base for a ramirez trade im sure they were discussing a deal at the deadline last year. Im sure SWR and martin were a part of that but there are other prospects that cleveland would like. But there are tons of moving parts for the jays in the next 48 hours im sure

not a huge fan of bryant honestly(i dont dislike him or anything though), but i would much prefer him to seager if this is the direction the team is going. hes got a much higher OBP and OPS over his career than seager, seager is another baez type batter, except much older.

Illitch is not any cheaper than Mike. It probably came down to the same situation as the Jays with Ray saying he wasn’t going to sign until after Dec 1st. Tigers wanted the sure thing before that and Correa wouldn’t commit.
This is just not true, the Tigers have been cutting costs for years since his death and are just now finally starting to spend after years of dicking their fanbase around with a "rebuild" where they penny pinched like never before. It has been reported that the Tigers were not willing to go 300+ with Correa despite the fact that their manager desperately wanted him.

I hope Chris Ilitch starts to spend because the AL Central needs to stop being a joke. Outside of the Cabrera contract (signed during the Mike years) and the contracts from this offseason, their roster is still quite cheap.

I think the idea would be to sign one and fill another roster spot through trade. You sign Bryant, you're still looking for another utility type, you sign Taylor and you're probably still in the market for a 3rd basemen.

The Blue Jays throwing two names out there helps keep the market in check. No one player thinks he can corner the Blue Jays interest. Glad we are doing it this way.

I know some on this board had issue with Bryant when the trade deadline came and went but if they can upgrade at 3B without dipping into their prospect pool? That's massive.

Count me in that pool, I didnt want to offload good prospects for him but I would love to have him on a shorter term deal to fill a hole with a solid bat without touching the farm and using said farm depth to upgrade elsewhere.

Im all for bryant too for 3rd. Price depending of course. There is also the no pick attached too. Then can use the prospects in other moves

is bryant still a plus defender at third. he played lots of corner outfield and first base last season to go with 50+ games of third

Same. Money is just money. You move prospects for someone like Chapman, and you've basically ended up with the same player, in terms of value, to Bryant.

one thing this management has shown is they are proactive and will not be hindered by a player/team/management's delays or posturing. they move on and sign what they can.

It should be Taylor as a priority before Bryant.

This frees up the Jays to talk trade on a true 3B and pitcher package where a player like Biggio is included in the deal.

Some have mentioned that Taylor and Biggio are the same. I would agree, hence the reason signing Taylor actually works in the Jays favor to secure other assets in a deal. Kirk\Groshans\Biggio base can easily acquire the Jays a better 3B than last season and pitcher for their rotation. Obviously the Jays may need to add.

Thats the route I take if I am Shatkins. Find out what it would take to land a Ramirez or Chapman plus a starting pitcher. If you can swallow that deal, give Taylor what he wants.
