im confused, didnt he hit .265 with 31 HRs and 88 rbis last year?? lol i mean sure he strikes alottttt but depending on the contract he could really be good here in toronto

I think the problem is that high K/low BB guys that actually succeed at not being sub-replacement bats usually are doing so because of what Baez has: elite bat speed and raw power, but those are often two of the first things to desert players as they age. We saw Bautista become a shell of his former self when those attributes began to fade for him. Imagine how much sooner and more precipitously it'll happen for a guy like Baez who's up there with nowhere near the discipline to stay away from bad pitches.

Baez also tends to put up some freaky high BABIP numbers in his good years. Whether due to good old fashioned glove luck or declining speed, that's also going to come for him with a vengeance sooner or later.

This rush of deals all at one time is great. It's too back it took an impending lockout for it to happen. No idea how you make teams and players act this way every year naturally, but it would be fun if they would.

Any smoke around Kris Bryant? Didn’t we have interest in trading for him last season?
He’s gonna demand an albatross contract that goes into his late 30s. Also he seems to be regressing from his early years somehow so he hasn’t been trending in the right direction

I was never a big fan of Baez and I’m surprised the Tigers took him over Correa who’s clearly way better.

Maybe Hinch and co can fix his wildness in Detroit but I’m just not a fan of players who are so ridiculously streaky

Anyone have an opinion on Chris Taylor? Not sure how much he’d cost but he’s 31 and just made an all star team. He plays 2B primarily and can play multiple positions, so he’s basically Biggio but much more established.

Wasn't it reported yesterday that he was staying in LA? Or am I imagining things?

ye its a monster lineup, ramirez to me is one of the few upgrades over semien in the infield, i think biggio gets it together again this year too, which paired with ramirez would provide some much needed lefty bats.

Yep. Biggio+Ramirez would likely add more wins to the infield then 2021 Semien + our combo of 3B’s

Chris Ilith is much cheaper than his father was and Baez will probably cost them 200 million less to sign.

Illitch is not any cheaper than Mike. It probably came down to the same situation as the Jays with Ray saying he wasn’t going to sign until after Dec 1st. Tigers wanted the sure thing before that and Correa wouldn’t commit.

Only difference being that Correa legit has no interest in signing this week

1 @ 18 million. The Semien contract.

Honestly, 18M isn't going to sign him and i have no interest in Correa for 1 year.

If his market cratered, we would still want to offer a long term contract and figure out everything else later.

If he was willing to take something like 8x25 (assuming that the CBA doesn't destroy our plans), I think we'd have to make it work.

love the jays...so hard to like baseball though...they are literally mercenaries 100% of the time a guy like Ray who literally resurrected a dying career in Toronto is the prime example...to me if a organization helps you that much you don't turn your back on them for another pay day (how much money do you really need to live a good life?) after 4 years 98.9% of these guys are literally set for 6 lifetimes...go jays go of course but it leaves a sour taste

This is what agents have done to the game.

I am starting to wonder if they sign someone like Taylor, dumb Grichuk and the still trade for a 3B.

If they trade Grichuk without signing someone else, basically they have no one to fill in at CF when Springer needs days off and none of the other guys can do it obviously. I wonder if Taylor can play primarily 2B, then CF and also a bit in other positions.
