Not really sure there’s gonna be a ton of demand for the gig. “Hey XXX, we just need ya to rebuild our prospect pool, find a goalie, bring in a weapon for 87/71 and rebuild the bottom six with not much for assets to use.”

As I said earlier, there are only 32 NHL GM positions. Openings are quite rare and unless you're an all-star player or head coach, its kind of the holy grail of hockey jobs. Very small, selective community. I think regardless of the position your team is in, there will be several willing to take the position. I believe at this point, the is less pressure on a GM than in the height of the Sid/Geno era where it was "cup or bust". Now you at least get to point to the fact that the guys are all 35+ and it's a young guys game.

All of this plus I have seen people call the Penguins job a ‘marquee’ one. In terms of franchise prestige, don’t think we’re up there with the O6 teams quite yet but we’re definitely looked on as a big time job regardless of situation.

O6 minus Chicago at the moment.

Yeah and having an ownership like FSG, I imagine that would be highly desirable. You know that in a couple of years, you will be in charge of the rebuild too so expectations will be low and you get to build your own team.

Nothing about the NHL community should lead anyone to think that potentially having a GM spot and ****ing it five ways from Tuesday would ever preclude you from having other opportunities.

Pierre was an awful executive who everyone hated, he got a cushy TV spot and a 2nd chance in Ottawa, one he apprently also sucked at. Hextall imploded two teams like a supernova going black hole and IMMEDIATELY got name dropped for a potential other job.

I guess. I have no idea what the heck they should do, and I’ve watched this team far more than any potential GM candidate. Hopefully they find the right path.

DK just talking about in his podcast this am what everyone suspected: no GM is gonna take this job who wants to fire Sullivan after the glowing comments about Sullivan at FSG’s press corner when they fired Hextall…neon sign flashing that day to all prospective candidates about much they love Sullivan and want him to remain lol…he’s probably gonna get another contract extension this summer…

Fired mid-season confirmed.

Speculation. The GM is in charge of the coaching to do with what he wants. The comments in the presser are standard lip service. You're not going to dump all over a guy you want to want to have be part of the process. As I've said in the past too, if you want him out from behind the bench, promote him up.

There's three ways to go about this:
1. Sullivan is fired and removed from the organization (which I would be fine with)
2. Sullivan is removed from being head coach but is kept in the organization (which I would be fine with)
3. Sullivan is retained as head coach (which I would not be fine with).

As @mmp9 said though, could be a standard mid-season firing if they continue to struggle.

That said, I do believe that Sid and possibly Geno/Letang may have a say in this as well. If there is anyone on the fence, that could sway the decision either way. I would go so far as to suggest that they were much more mushy and gushy on Sid than Sullivan. They said "it's very important Sid never plays in another jersey". They said "we think Sullivan is a rock star" not "It's very important to us that Sullivan coach no where else"

I guess I'm just taking the lip service more with a grain of salt than others because that is literally what FSG should be doing.

DK was also beating the drum all season long that FSG were absentee owners. More than any other media member. Then it turns out they’ve been pretty involved all along. Maybe he’s right on this but DK gets caught up in his own emotions a lot.

There seems to be a lot of renewed optimism around FSG because they had a press conference. There was nothing preventing them from beginning to assemble an elite front office until now. What have they been doing for the last year and a half?

They need to do a lot to redeem themselves for neglecting this team since they bought it.

Didn’t Mario and Burkle do the same thing with Shero and Bylsma? They fired Shero, talked up Bylsma and then let JR fire Bylsma as soon as he came in.

If GMs hear “we really like Sullivan and we just gave him a contract extension “ that’s basically saying we’re not interested in firing him to all GM candidates…nothing is going to be said aloud…it’s just that no candidates are going to come in there and say they think Sullivan is part of the problem who want to get the job…to the contrary, I think anyone who doesn’t toe the company perspective that Sullivan walks on water just won’t be hired…also, the core wants Sullivan to stay…I think that’s a big reason FSG pumps him so much…Sid loves him because he doesn’t want to play a defensively responsible system and wants to play aggressively offensive regardless of whether the team has the players to do so…

He also loves Sullivan lol, which colors his viewpoint
