Way out of your depth here. Those oldheads carried the team as far as it went. It was the garbage surrounding them that hurt them.

I'm not saying the oldheads failed the team - I'm saying it hurt the flexibility for the rest of the team (which may have been a necessary evil).

Keeping the oldheads was the smart thing to do probably, IMO. I still think it's impressive Hextall kept them at the AAVs he got them for.

Well genius, the way you and others cling to those back to back cups as reasons to keep Sullivan around makes it seem like it was actually recent
I don't cling to anything, I was a Pens fan before Mario when you could put a large Firework off in Civic Arena & no one would get hurt

Absolutely zero interest in Jason Botterill.

Not because I think he's an idiot or a bad gm. I just don't want someone coming in with any familiarity with this roster or coach. I want someone who is far enough removed from it to make actual analytical decisions and not emotional ones.

Hextall and Burke should have been that but they totally bombed and clearly had no interest in using analytics based on the players they brought in.

You do cling to them though. It’s why you responded to someone by saying “back 2 back Stanley Cups to being stupid.” You think because the team won two cups under him that he couldn’t possibly turn into a bad coach. Your crutch for defending him is “back 2 back cups” because you have no actual solid things to point to over the last “checks watch” 5 years

Oh how I love the collective knowledge of these boards sometimes. People want to bitch just to bitch. Sullivan is here until the new GM decides if he wants to keep him or not. Sullivan is just assisting in keeping things running in the meantime. This is pretty standard shit guys. Come on now.

The new GM may decide to keep him, and at that time you can bitch till your hearts content. Until then just chill the f*** out.
Complaining about complaining. Priceless.

I’d been watch8ng to see if they canned the asst coaches which might be a small hint that Sully is on a short leash…no such luck.
I look forward to more of Rierden’s PP next year….

As an aside, I find it fascinating that fans jump between "Hextall ruined this terrific team with his horrible moves" and "Sullivan hasn't had the pieces he needs to have success". Especially because the 2 playoff series with Hextall were substantially more competitive than the last 2 playoff series with JR.

This "great team" that Hextall ruined lost in the qualifying round to Montreal and got swept by the Islanders in the two previous years. But apparently that wasn't Sullivan's fault, he just needs a better team around him!

It’s literally been hours…let the new GM make changes, that’s their job. The FO canned who they needed to at this point.

I still think sully stays, but who knows at this point?

Man getting a GM that will mix some analytics with the eye test will be perfect. We don't need some old school dude who uses the force...

Contract vs. Age vs. Analytics == Contracts like Carter and Granlund would have never been offered/taken.

New GM could be crap but at least we are trying.

Realistically, I think any GM when being interviewed will "ask about firing Sullivan" and if the Management group says no then I don't think we'll get the good GM's people have been posting.

We'll know a lot more in the next few weeks... good first step.
