The ball is 100% in the Jets court. At this point they know he will not resign, other teams know he won't resign with them even if they trade for him this offseason so his trade value is basically a rental at this point, even for the Habs.

The question is, what are you willing to pay for 1 year of Dubois?

That is how I would look at the trade if I was part of the Habs management team.

Not quite though.

It's "What are you willing to pay for Dubois in 23-24 and for whichever capspace you end up saving by signing him this summer instead of next summer".

oh i thought he was under contract for next year already. So they have to sign him for another 1 year contract yikes,
And they can't give him a 2-year deal following arbitration.

Suzuki and Dach are both RHC's whereas PLD and Fantilli/Carlsson are LHC's. If we draft 2nd you simply put a LHC and RHC on the same line and they alternate taking draws depending on who is on their strong side.

Sure, but my point was that if you're drafting a prospect that appears to have a good chance of being a franchise center (Bedard/Fantilli are the likely top-2 picks), then there's more pressure to add talent for next season but that talent doesn't necessarily need to be a center.

How are we fixing the defence and goaltending? RHD are as hard to get as good centers. We were spoiled for a decade with Subban/Weber and Petry. We also lack depth. Our bottom 6 doesn’t add balanced offence/defence. We have a long way to go and that’s IF we win the lottery which the odds are strongly against us. Our fans need to settle down and respect the process.
We have add another top D. But we have caproom and picks to do it

Nope, he's RFA with arbitration.

PLD choices this off-season:
1. accepted a contract extension from for more than a year (already a no to the Jets)
2. sign his QO like he did last year (1 year contract then goes UFA)
3. go to arbitration (1 year contract then goes UFA)
4. gets traded and sign else.

I mean, possibly, but that's assuming he will take a discount on his UFA years which is a possibility. I guess he kind of has to if he 100% wants to play with the Habs.

I'm leaning towards getting him as a UFA but definitely willing to make a trade this summer if the price is right. I don't think it will be higher than a 1 year rental price because every manager in the league knows they will lose in after next season.

Why would the Habs pay more than that rental price?

I understand your opinion though, if you can lock him up now on a good deal that definitely brings up the price I'm willing to pay. I guess they'd need to negotiate out an extension as a part of the deal if the Jets want as much value as possible.

It's an interesting situation and very exciting as a Habs fan. The idea of Dubois and Dach on a line together has me salivating.

Unless they ask for said pick (which would be laughable) of course!

Just to add, he can also accept RFA offer sheets (but not if he elects for arbitration)

People will call him anything to suit their narrative. The anti-PLD crowd has had some real beauties, one need only read through this thread.

Guy is a tank who turns it up when it matters, the kind of player that we (or Any other team in the league) would love to have. I hope we get him, he’ll be a difference maker.

Langlois on 98.5 FM said that they even tried to acquire him last summer but it didn't work so we're clearly going after him...

I just hope we don't give up too much :scared:

Friedman has mentioned that the Habs and the Jets have already spoken PLD trade.

Also last year, I remember Hughes was asked about trading for PLD, he was honest in him being someone they'd be interested in. Then after the Petry trade and he had the Zoom conference call, he was asked about PLD, and he had a smile and he said that he had to be careful with his words. Because the time before, he was honest in being interested, and surely someone told him that he needs to be more careful with what he says about a playing under contract with another team.

In an article on TvaSpanrrrre website, Pat Brisson said that he felt comfortable acknowledging that his client would like to play for the Habs because he wasn’t under contract at that time. Hughes probably felt the same at the time.

My guess would be that; the league probably doesn’t like agents and GM’s speculating openly about players that are under team control even the though a contract isn’t signed. I’m guessing that a memo was sent following these two matchmakers openly discussing their prize fighter.
