I will say, if PLD really wants over 8.5 million I would have to think long and hard about it. He is still a 60 point player even though he's big and physical, that will hurt our cap structure. Honestly, anything over 8 is kind of an overpayment. 7.5 is fair value. He can't be compared to Suzuki and Larkin as those two have had bad linemates for the most part.

Removing Caufield from Suzuki should be banned. So having Dach over Suzuki
Dach will become the #1C soon enough, the size/skill/physical bulldozing/speed combination is too unique.

Give him the exact same deal as Suzuki and to Caufield as well.

Chevy's Day Off will come to an end soon if this team disintegrates and he doesn't pull off a miracle converting assets into other quality assets in the process.

Maybe the WIN GM has already tried to trade Scheifele, Ehlers and Wheeler, but has had lukewarm offers for these players, predicated on their negative reputations across the league?

Yup, pretty much.

To change the subject... imagine Scheifele's value in a sign/trade if they offer him at 50% for the last year of his deal? That would create quite the bidding war I would imagine. Teams get him for half the cap hit (around $3M) and then extend him at a time where the cap for 24/25 is much higher.

Chevy could get a massive haul if they decide to rebuild. I think Scheifele could return way more than Dubois cause I do think Scheifele would be open to extensions with the Avs, Bruins, and Canes.

$7.75M - $8.5M is my range. I'd give zero signing bonus money if he wants $8.5M like Horvat. I would give over 50% of the contract as signing bonus money if he took $7.75M - $8M range.

I do think Dubois is just as good as Larkin, Hintz, Horvat though and we need to be careful with evaluating him on points only. Points come and go depending on who you play with but all of these centers are legit top 2C who do things very well beyond points.

Dubois was close to pt/game with Connor on his line and is more like 0.7 pts/game without someone like Connor on his line. I think we can say the same with Suzuki (with and without Caufield).

I like Dach with Suzuki/Caufield but I also like Suzuki/Caufield and Dubois/Dach as well. Options are a great thing so yeah, lets get Dubois cause I really do think he wants to join this core and fit with our cap management strategy

If we get Bedard, put Dach with Suzuki/Caufield and Bedard with Dubois and Slaf (or Roy) :scared:

I'm actually shocked that there are little to no offers for Dubois from other fans. Even with the circumstances. Jets fans are out of their minds and they have the nerve to say Habs fans are being unreasonable.

This is tracking Trouba situation all over again. Jets GM created this problem. Traded Laine/Ros thinking they could convince Dubois to stay. Shouldn't have interfered when Dubois asked out of Columbus and likely wanted to be traded to the Habs.

Jets fans are going to turn on Chevy. And I don't blame them. He created this problem.
Why would fans make offers when insiders are only bringing up rumors of "Dubois to Montréal"?

The only "insider" not doing it is Dreger and he seems to be working for the Jets at this point saying the Jets will keep him or that he will cost too much to trade for...

Why would the Rangers trade the 20th pick and Pionk for Trouba when they were rebuilding and could have signed him for free a year later?

Dreger was just commenting about Friedman's 95% comment. We know Dubois and the Habs are mutually interested but what we don't know is who else is on Dubois's list. I'm 60-80% Dubois lands in Montreal but 20-40% he doesn't. I find 95% high. Might be true though

The other thing we don't know is contract amount signed in a sign/trade this summer vs what a contract would look like in the summer of 24 when the cap for 24/25 is going to be much higher.

Lots of speculation bud. It might be very possible Dubois is instructing Brisson to get him to Montreal and Brisson is managing that to his best ability. For now, Dubois has to say the right things to the media

I see Dubois as an Evander Kane, Taylor Hall level player.

They're not the players you want as your franchise player. But they're damn good talents to have as support players.
Why you compare him with a player with gambling problems and all other sorts of problems?
Tell me why you pick that particular player to make a comparaison? Evander Kane. Ah come on !!

Every 6 hours I read things like this on this forum. I also read future line-up that include Mesar on the top 6 lines. What happened to this board? Can't beleive it.

I never quite understood why fans hold grudges against players because they want to be traded or want out of the city they're playing in, so they can play in a city of their choosing.

Do GMs consider player's feelings when they're trying to trade them?

That's bidness!
I’d venture that those fans who are turned off by players who want to be traded or to want out of a particular city are not adverse to the player’s wishes but are principally disappointed by such player where he has chosen to make those wishes public while he is still under contract with the organization he wants to leave.

Some players are able to keep these kind of discussions between themselves, their agent and/ or management. There’s an argument to be made that keeping that type of sensitive info private serves both the player’s best interests and those of the fans.

Honestly I wasn't referring to any character issues. I was just talking about high draft pedigree and high talent.

If you go on the Oilers board, they are often raving about what a difference adding a talent like Kane to their lineup has made. That's all I was talking about. And I'm a big Taylor Hall fan, though in his case he's getting a bit old and has had a lot of injuries. So I'm more talking Hall in his prime.

Dach over Suzuki will never happen.
There is no Dach over Suzuki, just like there is no Crosby over Malkin or McDavid over Draisaitl. Having two centers only elevates the team. No need for any competition whatsoever.

Getting PLD a year sooner, would be of interest to me, as long as we don't gut ourselves of picks and prospects...
For me, it's just that simple. If they want too much, then offersheet him and it forces them to say yes and match, which then means they get nothing for him since they are not allowed to trade him for a full year, which takes him to UFA.
If they say no, we get him for what the compensation says, based on an offer sheet. Which would be picks? Not sure if the habs offersheet him at 7M what goes back the other way...

The compensation for signing him to an offer sheet would be too high a price to pay for getting him 1 year early.

I think something similar to Horvat.
See, to me, the Horvat deal is a TAD pricey for Dubois (it's also super pricey for Horvat there's a non-negligible age difference between those two players), but it's somewhat tolerable if that deal is offered out of free agency.

Trading for Dubois to have the "opportunity" to sign him to 8.5 x 8 ? Hell f***ing no.

I had a brother in law who lived short periods in Winnipeg and he told us how it was in that city. I can't write it but it wasn't pleasant to hear and to imagine. Nobody with a brain would want to live there. The stats says Manitoba have more death by murders than the province of Quebec and Manitoba have 3 time less population. And I'm not talking about the every day social problems, like violence, drugs and alcohol addiction.
I lived in Thompson Manitoba for years….I’m a Manitoba expert….fishing and hunting is great, some hotties…..and thats it!!!!! lol

there is literally nothing to do if you compare it to the other NHL cities.

friendly people though, natives are awesome too, especially the ones in Nelson House….shout out to my bros!!!

Don’t know why you there 417 lol

Suzuki contract should be the max.

PLD has the same P/GP numbers and lacks the intangibles that Suzuki brings. Suzuki is a “glue guy” on the Habs - leadership, competitiveness, other players want to play with him (recall Toffoli signing and related comments).

I grew up in Winnipeg and went to see the Jets v 1.0 regularly with my dad. I haven't been back in a while but my relatives are saying it's getting bad these past few years especially in the city center.
