I'd give him 7.5 max little baby wants to play here so bad he needs to take a paycut, not down to mess up our internal cap by paying this dude 9.5 mill after forcing his way off 2 teams I'm good.
I don't see why Dubois would take a pay cut though. Tavares wanted to play for his dream team Toronto and still got paid 11m. He didnt sign for hometown discount.

Little baby?

He’s playing for a team that every player with a no trade clause has that city on the top of that list.

Nothing wrong with wanting to be closer to home.
Not to mention his physical profile makes every GM in the league drool.

Habs fans think Anderson should only be traded for multiple first round picks but PLD is worth nothing.

He's not going to get $9.5M AAV. If that is his plan, he's not coming to Montreal.

What makes you think he gets $9.5M when Hintz, Horvat, and Larkin did not? More taxes in Montreal? Well, the taxes in Montreal is not that much different than NY and Horvat got 8x $8.5M

Many will call him names till he goes beast mode and powers his way into goals for the Canadiens

Remember the comments made towards Danault when he said he wanted to play top 6. Some fans never change. He didn't even get credit for how he shut down other teams centers because that credit went to Gallagher.

If we acquire Dubois, fans who go on attack mode will be evaluating him by his points only.

The Islanders let Tavares go into free agency a few years back. Why didn't they trade pajama boy before he went onto the market? Didn't they know he wasn't coming back, or were they deceived?

Why can't Dubois pull a Tavares?
He made it clear he wants out. Not comparable.

In the scenario we crap out with the lottery and draft 7/8, I’d be happy with them taking Reinbacher so that our defense is absolutely stacked long term.

Then, I’d look to package the Florida first for PLD. Maybe add in Eddy + vets + a few middling assets, since we have leverage

A core of :

xx - Dach - Caufield
xx - PLD - Suzuki

Guhle - Mailloux
Hutson - Reinbacher

Would be a lot of fun.
I think if we end up with Fantilli that getting PLD is a dangerous move. Especially if we are giving up assets. I think finding the money to maintain all these forwards for a long window would become a real problem.

I would give Dubois more credit than Tavares.

Tavares gave the Islanders false hope that he might stay and he talked about new arena, team direction, etc. He did that all the way up to the TDL where they didn't trade him and thought he might stay.

Dubois told the Jets when he had 2 RFA years left to give them time to decide what to do.

Draft Benson, Smith or Leonard and acquire Dubois... that would be change the forward group for many years to come.

Leonard will be a very fun player to watch in NHL, very close to Benson. They both play a similar game, very talented and hard worker.

Even by actual market, PLD can't ask for 9,5 M$ per, not even 9M$ per. THe max he could get as a UFA would be 8,5M$ IMO. Habs probably can sign him for 8M$ per, maybe even 7,5M$ if they can structure his contract in an advantageable way.

Agreed. $7.75M for 8 years with lots of signing bonus structure would be ideal. And I would not have a problem giving him the NTC or NMC if we get a good AAV around Suzuki's cap hit.

So I wonder, how bad does Dubois want to play for the Habs? And is he willing to take $64M over 8 years vs $70M+. If he wants to come but he wants $9M+, I pass. $8.5M max AAV is my number.

Coming home but taking a max AAV deal where he is expected to be our best player is a bad idea IMO. Take an AAV around Suzuki and Caufield and spread the pressure/expectations. $62M or $64M is still a lot of money and our goal is winning a cup and managing our cap space well.

I thought he was a shutdown centre but not a top 6 centre. He can centre a 2nd line but it's doubtful the team could win a Cup unless the 3rd line c also has 2c ability.

You've never heard of rentals? Really?
PLD can go to Boston or Colorado for rental and because the team who will bring PLD to his team will decide PLD to sign with them long term. This is what I would do if I was PLD. Montreal is too picky and snubbed PLD, well, Boston Bruuuins here I am, I'm gonna help the Bruuuins to win Cups and too bad Montreal.
Montreal can try to win Cups with players who are 5' 7", they became specialists trying that for decades.

Across the league Montreal fans are perceived as idiots. LA Kings are a much better team with Danault since he got there. Kopitar looks like he is younger. The young players can take time to developp and Kings are in a PO spot since Danault is in the line-up. But hey, we have Gallagher here, he was the motor of that line, it was obvious and still is today. Yes we don't have anyone to shut down Matthews but we don't care. We hated Danault and always hate him. A C who shut down a 12 M center like Matthews have zero utility in PO time. A C like this is worth 3M maximum, maybe 3,5 M.

We needed to rebuild not cling on to the Danault's of the world and ride the middle for another 5 years.

I had a brother in law who lived short periods in Winnipeg and he told us how it was in that city. I can't write it but it wasn't pleasant to hear and to imagine. Nobody with a brain would want to live there. The stats says Manitoba have more death by murders than the province of Quebec and Manitoba have 3 time less population. And I'm not talking about the every day social problems, like violence, drugs and alcohol addiction.

We hated danault just like we hated all our 1Cs outside of Saku and Suzuki. Just not good enough to be 1C not danault/DD/Plekanecs/gomez's fault.

Franchise C is what the fans always wanted and always will.

As for the baby comments on dubois I regret nothing! He's a bull on the ice that's true and my comments weren't an indictment on his play but on his CHaractere!

Because Danault was the only reason we were in the middle, oh yeah yeah I know. The intelligent people of the rest of the LNH think what they think, see my post before, lol.

I never said he was the only reason, but you start retaining every pending UFA with some value to the team and you continue in no man's land.

They made the right choice in letting him go. They made the wrong choice in extending Gallagher instead of trading him while he had value.
