I'm not offering it as fact. I literally said it may or may not be true.

If you're waiting for a world where we only discuss things that players themselves say go ahead.

I agree some people took PLD to the Habs as a slam dunk, I did not.

I think this critique that Habs fans shouldn't pay attention to the kind of rumours we were hearing is asinine personally.

You said there was no evidence he had MTL first on his list. If the only evidence you will accept is the player literally saying this, then sure, but I'm gonna stay over here in reality.

Requiring direct evidence is the essence of living in reality .......allowing for conjecture to shape your narratives is how you end up confused why 95% is suddenly 0% and hopefully aware that Marek had absolutely no evidence other than the ridiculous echo chamber that he was living in. Dubois nor Brisson ever stated that Montreal was his #1 destination, Brisson simply answered a question which only had one obvious answer and the media ran with it, he wasn't going to say that Dubois wouldn't play in Montreal, this is just nothing more than common sense.

I am not saying that you should ignore rumours, I am saying that you should do a much better job of vetting this information. What is asinine is suggesting that assigning credibility to unsubstantiated rumours brings you closer to reality than demanding empirical evidence.

Dubois in LA is a weird fit, city wise. Dubois seems quiet too. Mmmmm… not sure.

Personally, having visited the city for a 4th last month, I wouldn’t play there; I would have in 2016, last time I was there. Man, the hobos erecting tents on the sidewalks everywhere from Hollywood to downtown (except Bev Hills of course) is a sight to be seen. Beaches are full of them too now. People complaining about them in Mtl or Taranna have not been to LA lately. Yarke. Would be out of my list for sure.

Exactly.

L.A is a shithole. It used to be a shithole for medium class/poor people, but now it’s for everybody.

Imagine waking up in your house on the hills to a hobo trying to break in.

PLD think about it man.

This has got to be the most Peg thing to say about an incoming asset in the Dubois pending trade call:

Isn't Villardi a Kingston lad? He'll be weather-hardened. And be familiar with ice-fishing, prisons, lake culture and so forth.

Get him out to Cabela's and down to the Kenora Ye Olde Chippe Trucke and watch him rip the pen out of Chevver's paw to sign 5 x 4.5

Just how rugged is the Peg?

“Weather-hardened” is apparently an attribute in their player evaluation grid.

Prisons? WTF.

Has the player ever shot a deer from his living room “winda”? (probably also a points grid criteria).

Kenora Ye Olde Chippe Trucke? Is that run by a toothless farmer who keeps reporting UFO sightings?

And of course, their GM “Chevver”, fits into that wild landscape, signing deals with a paw.
Any place that has KILL before HUNT is not to be confused with an academic stronghold.

I think Dubois is going to LA too. But I’m just going to take advantage of the moment to remind people to never trust a word coming from Fraudgnotta.

Last year, the day before UFA he tweeted out he was ‘told’ by ‘sources’ that the Islanders would be one of the teams that would be ‘competitively’ pursuing Gaudreau.

Result: Gaudreau speaking to the press after getting booed during an Isles game: “ I didn't talk to [the Islanders] once throughout the whole free agency”.

Few days later he arises from his hole once more and tweets out: “Sources: Nazem Kadri and NYI have agreed on a contract, 7 years x $7.25 Mil AAV. NTC throughout the whole contract.”

Result: Kadri signs with the Flames

Moral of the story? Take what Fraudgnotta says with a grain of salt.
Tbh, I think they all are more or less the same. No real insider credentials for the most part. Some are just able to stick to the facts and leave the speculation out of it, others need a story because they have no viewership/following so they will say anything and don’t care about their credibility.

I even find Friedman seems to have basically zero sources. They don’t know anything until the deal is complete. The respected ones get it first.

That just means these prospects tend to have less value. Ylonen is a perfect example. Seems to happen a lot. Collberg is an example of inflated value that crashed shortly after and we were fortunate enough to land Vanek for him.

We're not in a position to add yet. Team has to move from being gawd awful to at least close to good. You have to be where Buffalo & Ottawa are, where you're, ok we can add now.

Or, New Jersey last summer where they identified they were good, but needed to improve D and goaltending then did.

We still have garbage players on our team left over from Bergevin era like Armia, Hoffman, Gallagher, and Dvorak.

We don't have the cap space for it either.

This is how people get sucked into arguments on here...

Alright you seem far more interested in putting words in my mouth and intentionally misrepresenting what I say than actually discussing this. I won't reply anymore, but you are off base if you think I somehow got duped by the rumour mill.

It's gonna hurt seeing Dubois and Danault at the LA center core.

But It's better this way, folks. We stay the course on the rebuild. I like that Hughes did not act reckless and panic. The temptation was great but we should not be stupid. After the trade, the Habs are gonna have all their promising young prospects still with them. The future looks bright.
Tbh we only have a few really promising players, the others are depth ones. We really need top end talent and I'm worried that Gorton and Bobrov don't have the best record.

I didn't care much from day 1 if PLD ever came to the Habs via trade (due to cost in assets required) but once this is finally done with LA I won't have to read spiteful and bitter posts from some Jet fans directed at the Habs and Habs fanbase again for a while.
Jets fans suck

They don't deserve a team in Winnipeg

when i said a year ago to stop putting PLD in next year’s line up, I got ganged up. Everyone talked like it was a done deal and that you couldnt say the contrary. LOL
funny thing is I said the same. did I want him, yes. but so many were conviced he would only come to MTL.... again money talks and I like that Kent did not gut the young pool of players

jet season ticket holders are gong to snap, when this team is stripped down

Friedman stuffs his sources inside his bottom lip.

But, I digress. :sarcasm:

At some point we have to make a bold trade though. More than just Dach. Too many times we’ve overrated our own prospect system and it amounted to nothing. What’s the point of having 10 young players that all project to be middle 6 wingers?
I dunno, but why would we want to trade assets just to add another at 8-9m?

I think we can move two of those 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse this season providing we realize we aren't getting a huge return. One of our main problems right now is not having enough free chairs at the top level to explore our prospect pool more thoroughly.

Good for Winnipeg, if it's true they're getting Vilardi+ then that's definitely making the best of a bad situation.

With where our rebuild is, there's no chance I'd move young assets as good as Vilardi in a PLD trade, but with where the Kings are, that trade makes sense.

Now we can leave the PLD speculation behind and move onto the draft where we should hopefully be grabbing a core guy going forward.
