Bottom line, is this Chevaldayoff leaking info to media to create some artificial market or are teams really willing to cough up the asking price?

At the end of the day Trouba situation was just as long & drawn out, but ended up being Pionk + 20s pick - despite rumors of large packages coming Jets way

I don’t see this situation playing out any differently to be honest
Hughes just has to avoid getting into a bidding war and let it play out. And stick to a non extended valuation as then we have to pay big time. If another team is in, then they get him and we move on. I am not interested in matching LA if they are offering up Vilardi plus a 1st, for example.

I really like Barron so I wouldn't (unless they take back both Hoffman and Armia). People really need to consider that the Kings don't have the cap space and need a goalie way more. Fiala who's a way better player and didn't pick and choose where he wants to go didn't net 3 1sts.
We need to be careful with cap space. Even if a team doesn’t have it today, they can always make moves to achieve it. It only depends on how much such a team wants a given player and what disposable assets of interest they have.

I think we can all agree that if LAK creates cap room, they do have the pieces to make a trade happen with the Peg.

I just don't see how they create that cap room when they need a goalie too.

Brisson is negociating Zegras contract with the ducks. Is the ducks OK with Zegras having a great time in Montreal during F1 weekend with his other agent’s clients. Zegras to Montreal for the 5th pick!

When they say deal from a position of strength, it’s to get something you’re missing with it, like the Dach thread. Dubois is not a need right now.
you dont think dubois makes us a better team? and i mean you're talking about trading from a position of strength....PLD kinda puts us in a better position too (assuming the cost to acquire here is low which it should be if speculations/rumors are true about him only wanting to play in mtl)

I think people forget he's only 24 (edit: ok so almost 25, on st-jean no less lol)...a year older than suzuki and 2 years older than CC and Dach. He'd be a core player and one with a ton of experience already.

That being said though, no way i'm selling the farm for him. Only way i'm giving up an A1 prospect is if they take on a contract as well

Sorry but the Zegras comparison is a reach. He's has not been in trade rumors for over a year now and near UFA and also connected to Montreal with his agent actually saying he would like to play for the Habs. Nice try though.

Saying no to Dubois now is like saying no to Poehling+ for ROR back a few years ago. You likely think it's easy to find centers like Dubois and all our futures hit. Rebuilds are strictly drafting . Don't worry, Dubois will sign for free and if not, it will be easy to find a center like him later. Sure

Pretty sure Gorton/Hughes agree with me and are talking with the Jets. Are you going to turn on them if they trade for him?

Absolutely not, you'd have to think PLD has had the intention of where he is going to play made very clear.

Agreed. The context keeps coming over and over again. If Brisson was in talks with other teams, there is no way he would advise to hang around with Caufield and take pictures that end up on social media. Not after all the Montreal connections over the last year.

Oh you're gonna get it and you'll love it:laugh:

Just like they come to like Dach and the "we should have drafted Nazar" comments have faded away.

This makes sense.

I'm happy management wants to get deeper at C this off-season.
I wonder if that means they really see Dach as a winger, or they want to go really deep with Dach as a 3C for now.

Kent could try to get creative again if need be and swing a 3 team trade. Like the trade last year was essentially Romanov for Dach, but Chicago didn't want Romanov straight up and we didn't have another mid-round 1st to give them instead. Insert NYI.

There could be a deal out there to be made for PLD where the Jets get what they want, my peasant brain just doesn't know what it is offhand.

To be fair I was a big fan of the dach trade especially over Nazar or Romanov.

I'm just scared of the contract price on dubois man im a cheapskate!!!!! One of the traits I earned growing up in Montreal :laugh:

We'll see what happens, but I had that exact same thought at the beginning of this season.

A strong center core is the best thing you can build if you want to win a cup, and outside of Suzuki we really don't have all that much. Dach continued to struggle at faceoffs this year and he looked his best playing on the wing.

I'm sure Hughes doesn't expect us to be bottom 5 again next year, so this summer could be our last chance to grab another bonafide top 6 center to go alongside Suzuki.

I'm not afraid of $8M - $8.5M for a 60 pts + physical center entering his prime and a growing cap. I am afraid of waiting for the 24 off season or trying to lower his AAV by going with 5 years in term though.

$8M in 3+ years will be the new $6M threshold.

This is not the Drouin situation. Past does not equal the future.

I'm with you. Love Dach's progression with us and MSL this past year but he's not some sure shot hit at center who does everything well. Adding Dubois to this mix is a great move.

I'd love this top 9 in a few years. Dubois comes but won't be on an island by himself. This is very important. Timing is very good. We missed on Bedard with 5th pick and some fans think we are going to be picking bottom 5 for 2 or 3 more years. In truth, if not for the injuries, we would be picking 5-10 or 8-12.

Caufield / Suzuki / Dach
Slaf / Dubois / Michkov
Roy / Beck / Anderson

Who has the better youth offerings if both the Kings and Habs have Byfield, Clarke, Vilardi, Slaf, Guhle, Dach off the table?
It’s a dog’s breakfast at that point and boils down to:

Does Chevy want to accommodate PLD in any way shape or form, and hand him the keys to Montreal, on a rebuilding team? Or does he send him to 8 years of sun/beaches, and a chance at winning cups in the immediate future?

If I was Chevy I’d be tempted to give him what he wants and hope that he fails miserably as a Hab.

I still think PLD will be repatriated home, and we end up drafting Reinbacher (to replace Barron who I feel will be dealt in the trade to acquire PLD) but time will tell. I’ve got a lot of faith in Hughes, I believe he will make the best of the situation and cards he’s given.

Kind of how I see it too. Some Jets fans on the main boards refuse to acknowledge it. They say the Kings have more to offer and I asked, what do you think the offer is without Byfield, Clarke, and Vilardi and they refuse to list names. Ignorance at it finest

Yeah the top 6 looks good for the future especially if PLD comes over. If you include him, the Habs are set on forward for the future. They might sign a vet centre short term until Beck develops (after Dvorak leaves). I also think they're better off getting rid of Anderson only because of his cap hit. 2024 FA is the big year to sign someone like Sorokin, etc. Then all the RFA's that come after in the next few years. Gotta make space. I'm hoping Habs can hir on one of their 1st or 2nd Rds to be that future 3rd line RW.

That's where we are as a fanbase. Finally not having to worry about the top 6 cause it's full and wondering what the future third line will look like. Feels good
