Ok let's just say he gets traded to Nashville. Do you think he'll be like " oh well I'm here anyways, might as well sign long term. I can pick where I live long term if I wait, but I'll just sign" ?
That is a team where it would make lots of sense. Sarros or Askarov+ for a signed Dubois. If he accept signing there.. not a done deal. It would be a good hockey trade for both team.

Dubois apparently wants to sign a long-term deal before the 2023-2024 season, and will thus won't be traded to a team offering him only one year, because he's getting traded to a team with which he has an agreed upon deal.
PLD has almost no say in where he goes. Unless he decides to sit out an entire year which will hurt his value on FA, he has to play for whichever team he gets traded to. If jets can't find a suitor for PLD to do a sign and trade because of the price Chevy's proposing, he'll be forced to trade him as a rental. It's not that hard to understand

But he wants to sign long term in a big market. So all three sides (Jets, Preds, and PLD) would know it's probably only 1 year and treat it as such. No team is giving up core pieces to get a guy to help them compete for a year. At most jets will get a good prospect and a mid to late 1st

He won't even be UFA in that scenario.

Yeah,

It's one thing for me if the guy is really worth it and we CANNOT afford him going to another team...

But his track record of "wanting out" speaks for itself, all the way back to his junior days...

Some also really over-value him due to how tall he is, position he plays and where he was born.

He's decent but let's not go crazy here, and also keep in mind there are definite red flags, he will likely want out of Montreal at some point if he comes here, just judging by his history.

All in all this does not scream to me like a loyal, heart and soul player.

Pass - unless we sign him on a decent deal.
To be honest though he had quite a good year wanting out in a team were there was clearly issues in the room. If you trade for him its a sign and trade. He never really had a long term contract before. Its a risk I would be willing to take. On his side though, be carefull what you whish fore, if you ask for more money then Suzuki and you are underwelming in your first year, the mtl media will eat you alive!!!

Who said Nashville is not on his list?

Nashville is to everyone list to be honest

But like I report yesterday it would be between LA and MTL. They are the 2 serious teams
LA would be in a better place then we are. For me I would like to see him in mtl but not at the expense of moving a core piece. When I see Anderson being a throw in, i cringe. Edmonston or Dvorak i would be fine with. I would not even include Gallagher, although that one would be tough to refuse.

Bottom line I am convinced they could get a better offer then what MTL would offer.

I think HuGo shouldn’t play nice guy here and fo the offer sheet route. Sign Dubois to a one-year, $6.435M offer sheet, the Jets would only receive a 2024 first rounder and 2024 third rounder in terms of compensation. Matching the offer sheet would mean the Jets cannot trade Dubois for one year, walking him to free agency without the possibility of recouping assets.

If jets match, we sign him in the summer, if they don’t all we lose is next years 1st rounder and a 3rds

Yes If I had to bet on where PLD is going, my money would be on LA

No chance in hell I'm giving up an unprotected 2024 for Dubois.

Yeah, LA can easily offer them a nice package. I have a tough time seeing a path where the Canadiens acquire him unless PLD refuses every offer in other cities.

The fact people are mentioning the offersheet with our unprotected 1st and think the Jets even have to think about considering matching tells me they don’t understand just how badly we’re getting bent over in that situation.

And also forgetting that Dubois wants nothing to do with a one year deal. He wants to get his extension locked in now.

Please stop, next year's 1st rounder is likely another top 10 pick.

Can we put something like Top-15 pick protection on OS compensation?

It was never mentioned he wouldn't sign his last year.
I think Tkachuk himself said that he could have easily signed a one year deal and not resign with the Flames to go where he wants, but he didn’t want to do that to them and he wanted to just start fresh asap.
