Do you really think Dubois hit his peak and is going down from now on?

His 63P in 73GP is better than what Suzuki did this year in terms of PPG...

I don't understand the pushback when it comes to this guy.

I'll take him on my team 24/7!
I'd love to see how many point Dubois could put up playing with the scrubs we saddled Suzuki with. It's not a question of taking him on the team or not it's a question of for how much and for what assets. I don't count games missed either for him or Caufield or any other player for that matter it is a very poor argument when talking stats. He didn't help the team during those missed games now did he? Durability is an attribute as we should well know given our past season. Every time I hear Hughes talk about a willingness to compete or Marty talking about taking care of the team first I really don't think of Dubois. I don't think Dubois should make more than Suzuki and now that includes Caufield. :sueme:

I get the feeling that Hughes will call Dubois's and Winnipeg's bluff. He will let both know he has no intention of paying both the Winnipeg ask, and the Dubois contract demand Montreal is out as a potential destination and they should trade him to one of the other 5 teams.and he can sign there for 8 years. Montreal like with Dach last year, are working on another deal that should be concluded by the draft. Dubois will need to choose money over destination if he really does want to play here.

The only caveat to any Dubois deal has to be no NMC and a very limited NTC.

Lol I keep picturing it my head like :
This alllllll has been done by PLD and his camp, just to finally, somehow someway get a 1 on 1 meeting with Kent
And then its just PLD and Kent, finally, alone in a room
And PLD will finally just come out with it :
"Dude.. , just, please, for the love of God, just please get me the f*** out of here, I'll do ANYthing, just... please Kent.. help me."

At least that's I how I cope with it

Lol. A player who scored 60 pts isn't more proven than a player who scored 40 pts? Not gonna waste time debating with you.
Cherry picking aren't we? You want to ignore Suzuki's progress these past two seasons? I really don't give a rats ass when the contract was signed. I do care about what is being produced for the monies involved. So in Nick Suzuki's case that was this past season and guess what he produce more than Dubois ever has while dealing with a captaincy of the most stroried franchise in the world who happen to have the most demanding fan base. All this while playing a good portion of said season with AHL players or scrubs. If you don't think this has any bearing whatsoever on what we should pay Dubois I'm at a loss for words.

Considering Brisson is his agent, 100% guaranteed they have already discussed just how interested Kent is and what contract structure he would be willing to negotiate at. No way they have not talked about this all spring lol

Theres literally zero chance the #5 is included….

Jets fans dont even expect that return

Most people around here seem to be fine with trading the 5th OA for Keller,

Keller and PLD are compareable players, PLD being a slight tier below,

So the 18th OA pick should be enough to make up for the difference,

If Dubois signs a long term deal at Suzuki/Caufield money then yes. If not then It is hard to get excited about a player with a career high of 63 points who has forced his way out of the only two organizations that he has played for and to then consider making him the highest paid player on the team. If he truly wants to play in Montreal then he can prove it by falling into line with regards to our salary structure.
What do you make of the argument that our salary structure is only applicable to players coming off their ELCs and should not be a barometer for someone like Dubois who is one year away from becoming a UFA?

Hold his feet to the fire. He hasn't got the goods to back up a higher demand. ELC or no. The last thing we need down the road is bad blood because of an over payment. We saw what that can do in Danault's case. People bring up the Jonathan Drouin situation and while we all know Dubois isn't Drouin we will still be asked to pay him a hefty salary before he has laced up a skate for the Habs. I feel confident Suzuki and Caufield have done enough for us to merit their rewards where obviously Dubois hasn't. It would be different if PLD's career to date was lined with Gold Stars but it has been luke warm at best for lack of a better term.

I'm at the QMJHL draft and had the chance to talk with someone well aware of the Dubois saga. Take it as you want

They are 2 teams remaining :

MTL
LAK

Should be done in the next 2 weeks

For the contrat they are looking at Matthew Barzal contrat as comparable
Barzal is making what 9.125M while putting up close to 8 pts more per season on average. I doubt he gets that here maybe in LA.

They can certainly look at comparables.

However, when a player so overtly and manifestly prefers a given market, you’d have to think there will be a trickle down effect (downward lean) on salary ultimately agreed upon in what should be a sign and trade.

No way would we want to just pick up this guy for his remaining contract year only and hope to negotiate. He’d be more fleet of foot than a paid harlot.

This doesn't smell right from the Dubois camp.

Why would you drop so many hints that you want to come to Montreal for years annoying your own fanbase, and then a year before UFA agree to a sign and trade with 5-6 teams?

Either the 5-6 teams thing isn't true or he never really wanted Montreal as much as he wanted out of Winnipeg.

5-6 teams thing is suspect.

The teams haven’t been leaked by anyone and Friedman and Marek both said it’s pretty much MTL and no one else.

Probably has to do with the extension number.

I wonder that as well. Even if he just wanted the max money and control, why wouldn't he just take a one year (could even be with another team) and wait for FA.

If it is a bluff, hopefully HuGo calls it. If it's not a bluff, well then he never really wanted to come here anyway.

And not only that but Barzal is the guy driving the bus for NYI, it is something PLD has never done for either team he played for. After Panarin left Columbus, PLD quickly realized that he needed to go to a team that did not need him to be the man.

Both Barzal and Horvat deals were signed by Lou Lamoriello and the New York Islanders and will be used as comparables I’m sure. Hughes counter argument should be we aren’t the desperate New York Islanders and we don’t need to overpay to acquire talent.

Have you ever been to Winnipeg..?

Dubois lacks the dynamic skating to drive the play. Never has and never will. The only thing he will drive is his car to the bank to deposit his pay cheque from the team that decides to overpay him.
