Think about Kent Hughes and Gorton - they just negotiated a contract with Caufield that had him give them term and money less than Suzuki.

Why would they trade Dach, at minimum 50% of PLD's salary on an extension, to get a player who has already moved through two teams, and hasn't reached a potential that is significantly higher than what Dach showed this season?

You'd be adding salary and term without a large upgrade, and bringing someone into the core you don't know as well as you know Dach.

Dach is about as untouchable as it gets on the team.
Hope you're right but when it comes to québécois players it seems that logic, planning and structure can get thrown out the window to please the crowd. , Maybe I'm still traumatized by some past trades (and some that could have happened like the Lecavalier trade) though, I really hope you're right.

Thankfully it's a new regime in charge and I don't think they think that way. They are operating from a different place than previous people. These are intellectuals, not the high school educated career grinder.

lol, you're quite assertive. Maybe I haven't been clear enough, I believe this is what it would take to make Winnipeg bite in a competive bidding against other teams. Now, if Winnipeg is very limited in their trade options by PLD (which I sincerily doubt) it could be less than that.

I'd be interested to read your 100% right take though.

If Dach is who the Jets are hung up on in order to trade PLD to Montreal, then I will pass on that.

I want PLD and I feel they should trade for him, but I'm not doing it at any price. And Dach is off the table. Let the Jets trade PLD elsewhere. And if PLD extends there, you turn your attention elsewhere.

The whole goal is to add PLD to guys like Dach, Suzuki & Caufield. Not replacing one of them.

Professional hockey is one of the few enterprises where management of multi million ( billion?) dollar businesses are often entrusted to people with barely high school level educations. And some teams wonder why they are floundering. And continue to do so.

There are so many options available that could assist in advancing the fortunes of the team. The fixation on Dubois is startling, as if he is the sole key to the kingdom. But maybe not so startling after all.

Exactly. PLD would be a welcome addition. But it's not like it's him and no one else that could help the Canadiens progress in their quest to be a contender.

really depends on what amount PLD wants to sign for... 8+ no way that happens
disagree. heres why:

so what happens if we have Suzi PLD and Smith? One would have to go eventually you’d think as they’re all top six (if smith pans out). I think acquiring a D or winger is more important than PLD

All 3 of them have experience and capability of playing on the wing.

Agreed but I wouldn’t put smith there and suzi just won’t play on the wing because of his defence. I don’t think any coach would do that. I’d sign PLD only if he doesn’t have a NTC or a partial one

PLD's playmaking isn't in the same league as Dach's, to be fair.

PLD just reached physical maturity earlier than Dach and didn't have to deal with the wrist injury.
I disagree, Dach wasn't scoring even before the wrist injury. He's just not a goalscorer, look at his junior days stats. Playmaking is also debatable. They both can dish it and see the ice very well. Saying they are not in the same league is pushing it, i'd say they're pretty even. Thing is PLD takes the option to shoot more often since he can beat goalies with it.

Anderson has an NTC. No way he wants to go to Winnipeg

I have no idea why you felt the need to tell me that.

I didn't suggest trading Anderson. Nor did I hint at it, or imply it or anything of the like.

Just seems like a strange message to send someone out of the blue.

Raphaël Doucet has just dropped a bombshell concerning the situation of Pierre-Luc Dubois in Winnipeg.

Indeed, in his article published on the La Poche Bleue website, he indicates that reliable sources have told him that the Quebecer will be traded before the draft which will take place in just 20 days.

“Raphaël Doucet spoke to a source familiar with the Dubois file and, according to her, he should be traded soon, maximum by the draft. - The Blue Pocket

The one thing I do like is that if PLD only wants to come here, he will likely sign between 7-7.5 per year. With the cap increasing considerably soon, having all three of PLD/Suzuki/CC make less than 24 million would be pretty damn good cap management in a 90 million cap era. Yeah he's flawed, ya he seems like a bit of a diva requesting trades this many times, but we aren't paying premium for him and aren't signing him to anything crazy so it's not similar to the Drouin situation. A big 60 point versatile player isn't going to dramatically change our team, but 2014-2015 was the last season where we had more than 1 60 point player so it's not like we get these players often.

My main concern is if we add PLD, what's the plan for this season? Obviously we won't be competitive, and we will be better than what we were this year. Not tanking hard enough may hurt us big time this year, and we will likely be in the 8-12 range next year.

MTL could be his main place to play... no way it is Habs or bust though
