This would end up being Drouin 2.0

Everybody would get all excited at first, and then.....flop

Another French player with a bad attitude, who has given up on his previous team, actually TWO of his previous teams

Meesa thinkin' Dubois would be a grand choice for Habs, oh yes! He gonna be a solid 1B behind Suzuki and allow Dach to grow, mesa agreein' with yousa! Dubois, he already provin' a lot more at such a young age than Drouin ever did, mesa seein' that too. Da only similarity they have is they both speak French, hehe!

Dubois, he'sa talented player with a bright future ahead. He bringin' skill, versatility, and a strong work ethic to da table. Habs could benefit from his presence, mesa believin' that!

With Dubois as a 1B, Habs gonna have a dynamic duo at da center position. Suzuki and Dubois, they gonna provide a strong one-two punch, givin' da team more depth and options. Dach, he gonna have da opportunity to develop at his own pace, no rushin' him.

Meesa seein' da potential in this lineup, and mesa thinkin' Dubois would fit right in with Habs. He gonna bring a new energy and contribute to da team's success. And hey, it'sa nice bonus that he speakin' French too!

Mesa hope Habs considerin' Dubois and make a move that benefits da team. It could be an excitin' time for Montreal hockey fans, mesa thinkin' so!

What will allow Dach to grow and develop at this point is not Dubois, but playing at his natural position, center, without having a Dubois taking his minutes or being tossed to the wing because of him.

Boston has roughly 5M in capspace next season and need to add 8 players to their roster, including a goaltender. Their highest salaried player with no trade protection is Jake Debrusk 4M), who is UFA next season too. Well, there's also McAvoy, but let's be serious, he isn't in play here.
Not saying it would happen, but realistically if he gets 6M, retained at half by both Winnipeg and a 3 rd team, he is a 1.5M cap hit for a year. So depending on how willing Boston is on handing out draft picks to make it happen, they could get him for a bit more than a cheap UFA.

The Jets are a mess.

They need to hire Billy Beane.

Chef, Helle, PLD - excellent players but not a ton of playoff success or intangibles. Expiring contracts … the RFA among them says he wants out. Not a ton of negotiating power if they want to replace with comparable players. Tough spot.

The whole playoff success angle always makes me laugh. It's team dependent. Eichel was a posterboy for no playoff success and now will likely have a cup in a week. Those 3 guys can definitely win in the right situation IMO.

Eichel was never in the playoffs so had no reputation for his performance there. No point in trying to compare. He’s had a bumpy road with bad teams and bad injuries.

I didn’t say those guys couldn’t have success. I said they didn’t. … there’s a big difference between doing and maybe could do.

Your comment highlights the intangibles they lack. For example, why the 3 leaders need to be put in the right situation, rather than them creating it.

The point is, Eichel was known for being someone you can't win with...until you can.

The Jets team weren't good enough to win. Jets made final 4 in 2018 and Helley/Schiefele did well. Dubois also showed he can perform in the playoffs at times with the Jackets. Don't think putting a label on Dubois because of the results from Jets failures is wise.

That requires Dubois to be signed in the first place at 6M/yr which... seems unlikely, at least early in the summer. Not saying it won't happen, but that seems unlikely (that would be a pure sign-and-trade).

For the first three rounds between 2023 and 2025, Boston have their '23 3rd rounder, '25 1st rounder and '25 3rd rounder.

Agreed given their lack of picks, there are other teams that need to be all in like Pittsburgh, Washington, Colorado that would bite on a sign and trade like that. I don't expect PLD to make it too difficult to sign, getting an arbitration ruling may not be the most beneficial for him as a UFA if he doesn't exceed his numbers from last season, better to be judged off his bang for his QO or there abouts. Detroit also needs a center and has a bunch of early round picks to offer if Winnipeg does decide on a rebuild in the end.

I don't think PLD would sign of 6
PLD wants to be a big shooter in the coin dept

no trade for me, lets just wait for 1 year. Caufield in for 8 years ( great) also I want to hear the Slafkovsky is in the gym 5 days per week adding 15lbs of muscle for next year.

I'm a big believer in Slaf, but personally I think he should be on the treadmill working cardio and eating less to slim down a touch.

Not that he's fat, he's just carrying a ton of muscle.

Kent will not sign him for more then 7
Oh, sure, he won't be signed long term for less than 7. He has no reason to sign long term for less than that.
