He was *never* hitting Free Agency
I just don't understand how so many people never got that honestly..

It was never in the cards when you say what he did TWO years before UFA.

Well all we heard recently from the insiders was that he wanted to test free agency.

First information from an insider that shows he wants to leave Winnipeg more than he wants to come to Montreal.

In the past we had heard numerous reports that his goal was to eventually come to Montreal, whether this summer or next summer - or even in past summers.

The most I would trade for him right now is FLA 1st, Kidney OR Harris, and Colorado 2nd in 2024. If they want more than that i'll take my chances in trying to sign hikm as a UFA. Under no circumstance am I trading Owen Beck along with the above draft picks for him.
I'm pretty sure Winnipeg will have to let Dubois work out a long term deal with any team that wants to trade for him, if they want to get a good return for Dubois.

I don't think the Habs want to give a good return. Best pieces available may be ones like Florida 1st, Owen Beck, Justin Barron. I think other teams can top that. No way we give up Dach, Suzuki, Caufield or Guhle. Salf? I doubt it. But it is possible.

Loosing the 17th pick hurts

Why assuming Jets wants futures?
That's maybe not what they are looking....and salary will have to go the other way too.

A lot of times i come on here and laugh, cry or plain shake my head at some of the ridiculous trade proposals. This is not one of them . Dubois will be a Hab He doesn't want to play anywhere else so he is not going to sign a long term contract with any other team .We won't have to give up much as some are saying on here because of that..Why would we?He will either be a Hab soon or wait a year when he is a UFA and cost nothing.

Florida making the playoff and going deep hurt us a lot. We could have trade the #16 pick and a third for PLD.

Now is more like Florida first+ third + prospect.

He wasn’t.
Panarin, duchene, Atkinson (and others) led that team (4 years ago)
Panarin and Duchene where not even with CBJ the year I'm talking (2019-20). My bad though I said Tampa but it was Toronto

That year, CBJ leaders where:

Dubois 10 pts in 10 games
Atkinson 8 pts in 8 games
Foligno 6 pts in 10 games
Wennberg 5 pts in 10 games

7.5M a year, max
The Habs were clear that they didn’t want to go above the Suzuki contract in the Caufield negotiations. Brisson agreed but could justify it because there he was buying 1 less UFA year than the Suzuki contract did.

Would the Habs want the same in a Dubois contract? Would Brisson bite this time considering all the UFA years involved?

You’re getting your years mixed up.
They lost to Tampa that year.

Funny how Caufield is a 40 Goals scorer but PLD who was a PPG player before getting injured and was a 70 pts player if we prorated it to 82 games is only a 60 pts player

And it's true that we have the luxury to say no to U25 65 pts 6'3 players
Think CC got 46 in a 82 game span, since MSL took over, but it was over 2 different seasons..........

Could care less what PLD has done so far, he plays for other teams............his stats show he is a 60 pt player, we can gladly take him as long as the price is not too high.

If PLD is only a 60 pts player, then Caufield is a 20 goals scorer

I would argue the 17th pick would have been an overpayment.

He wants to come here no matter what so we shouldn’t give up too much with all the leverage.
How would it be an overpayment ? Getting a 65-70 pts 6'3 C under 25 is worth WAY more then a 17th pick OA that have 5 % chances to be better then PLD

And where not the only team he's interested in playing for...

PLD has a career average of producing 57 points per season.............
302 points..........in 434 games.............
Just some facts......about PLD.
Let's not worry about Caufield's 40 goal potential season in season out...........also note, Caufield has never once forced an NHL team to trade him...LOL

I’m just saying we can probably get him for way less than he’s worth.

Adam Fox went for a couple second round picks because he wanted to play in New York so maybe something like that.

PLD will be 25 next season......he would be a great add, but not at any price.

Adam Fox had 0 NHL games when he traded and it was really NYR or nothing.

PLD would't say no to many teams, he just want a big market

Do you honestly think he will say the only team i will play for is the Habs ?He pretty well stated so but not in so many words.I would be be absolutely shocked if he signs a long term deal with another team .Of course it all depends what the Jets are asking .We don't really need him but he would fit in nicely here .Hughes won't sell the farm for him though.

I don't see that as a downside.

I don't want Suzuki being the oldest player on the team when we're competing.

We need to build around them, as long as those players will still be with the team and in their prime at the right time.

Dubois has a good 6-8 years left of his prime by most metrics.
