Do you honestly think he will say the only team i will play for is the Habs ?He pretty well stated so but not in so many words.I would be be absolutely shocked if he signs a long term deal with another team .Of course it all depends what the Jets are asking .We don't really need him but he would fit in nicely here .Hughes won't sell the farm for him though.

He should have a few destinations in mind. He's not going to retire at 24 because the Habs couldn't or wouldn't make a trade to get him.

Caufield never played for CBJ or WIN
Montreal’s going to be a lot more miserable then those markets if he wants to be a diva. If he signs here, he’ll have a target on his back from the moment he arrives. And if his first instinct is to pout or make a scene when things aren’t going his way or he’s unhappy, this city will humble him quickly.

That's not about being a diva but those are the most boring market in the league. I would't want to play there either if I had the choice

He may be praying to go back to boring if he gets moved here. Lol but I do agree those are two pretty crappy locations.

Well all we heard recently from the insiders was that he wanted to test free agency.

First information from an insider that shows he wants to leave Winnipeg more than he wants to come to Montreal.

In the past we had heard numerous reports that his goal was to eventually come to Montreal, whether this summer or next summer - or even in past summers.
He's a Hab lol. It's only a matter of time. That last bit on PLD wanting to be traded this summer and I'm officially convinced.

Is this going to be the first "Quebecois star wanting to come to MTL" rumor that comes true??

If he's traded to the Habs, it's going to be for way less than what's being thrown around here. Dubois' value after demanding two trades and now holding out on his contract is going to be exceptionally low compared to his value as a player. He's not even a rental at this point as he'll ultimately decide who he signs a contract with.

When taking into account the character concerns and the fact that Trouba had performed better pre-trade, I think we see a return less than Pionk and 20OA.

He's a big center. Someone will be willing to pay a good amount - as long as he comes with an extension as part of the deal.

No..............he is an American who wants to play for the team who actually drafted him.

I am sure, we both realize PLD is a good player, and has been for 400 plus games.............but let's be frank, there are red flags.
Do I think he can be a very good player with the habs, yes..............maybe a better player than he has been with other teams....................
I do NOT want us to sell the farm to get him.

The problem: Dubois wants out and seems intent on playing in a single market. This creates issues for Winnipeg in getting equal value in a trade, and for the NHL in trying to maintain parity and not create a precedent where players dictate where they play before normal free agency age. It also creates issues for Dubois in terms of his reputation.

The solution (which will not happen but would be fair to everybody):
- Dubois accepts to sign a long-term contract with Montreal at a significant discount compared to his market value or what Montreal would be prepare to pay for him. To my uneducated eye, Montreal may be willing to give a $7.5 millions/7 years contract in normal circumstances. He now accepts 1 million less ($6.5 millions per year) or 1-2 year less on the contract. This increase the value of acquiring Dubois for the Habs.

- In return for acquiring Dubois at a cheaper cap value, Montreal is willing to part with better assets than what it is probably currently offering Winnipeg at the moment. For example, Beck, Roy, Harris, Engstrom, and Calgary/Florida 2025/2026 first round pick (no strings attached). This increase the value for Winnipeg.

- Dubois gets his wish and is traded asap to Montreal. His reputation is enhanced throughout the league by making a small financial sacrifice (~$450,000 per year after Quebec taxes) and helping a small market team. This increase the value of the trade for Dubois.

I know this is very unlikely to happen, as each party (Dubois, Winnipeg and Montreal) in the trade will work against each other to try to win the trade and the resulting new Dubois contract. This will lead to bad blood and bad karma for all parties involved, unfortunately.

I don't see that as a downside.

I don't want Suzuki being the oldest player on the team when we're competing.

We need to build around them, as long as those players will still be with the team and in their prime at the right time.

Dubois has a good 6-8 years left of his prime by most metrics.
Good points.........I merely was pointing out, that PLD is not going to be an under 25 yr old player anymore, he turns 25 this month.

There will always be a couple of vets around this team..........on D or up front.
No way you can be a playoff team year in year out without some vets.

Dubois taking anything less than 8m long term in MTL is him taking less.

Tax plus free agent prices for young big centremen.

I do think Hughes would be wise to get a handle on what Dubois is asking for before trading the moon for him.

I don't think that would happen.................but there are flags here for sure.
Could he handle the mad market in Montreal? I think he can, he is far from Drouin.

Kind of hard to believe this, based on the info we have. Even Drouin looks like a model citizen compared to Dubois at the moment.

In normal circumstances for sure, would be great if we knew who was actually on his list.
