I already said in another comment i wasn’t talking specifically about Dubois and more about the comment that the habs would supposedly waste suzuki/caufield/dach’s years if they don’t trade for players to help those guys win now.
I don't understand though. PLD is not some older vet. He's the same age as the current core. We'd be adding another high end young player like Suzuki to the team.

Him playing well actually is bad news for us cause he will cost a bunch. lol
Value wise I don't think it's gonna make a difference since Jets were gonna undersell him no matter what. Contract wise money likely isn't his priority if he is actually forcing his way here.

Right, their issue is that they have to trade him no matter what. But when you show up at a table with someone that is worth more, you have a bigger bargaining ship. It's easier to go to multiple teams and grow the bids.

Missing most playoff games this year because of the wonderful night shift. When I checked online and saw that PLD had scored and gotten an assist, I knew pom-poms would be out in full

He'll be fun to watch if he does end up in Montreal.

that is so true, lot's think he is 30 they way they talk.
but that being said, that is why I feel Kent must trade and sign him. if he goes to ufa, he will get big coin.

Depends - teams won’t big against themselves for a rental player, unless PLD agrees to a sign & trade.

At the end of the day, it’s all about what PLDs true intentions are: is it Vanek or Panarin situation where everyone knew they were going to sign longterm at only 1-destination?

If PLD helped us win 10 more games, he'd win the Hart in a sweep.

10 WAR is unheard of.

If he make us win 10 more games next year, one would think he line up with our current core more than the 17th pick in this draft and whoever we pick in the 12~18th range next year. Both picks are 2~3 years away from the NHL and 2~3 more years from having an impact in the NHL... if they ever have an impact that is.

I would not trade for PLD this summer, i believe that a rebuilding team should accumulate good prospects, not trade them for a high cap hit player, also to be considered is what if the habs trade for PLD and he does not have a signed extension contract, he decides to leave after 1 season and the habs lose a couple of good prospects that the habs will need to fill other needs or use as trade chips in the next few seasons when the habs are able to contend again. wait 1 more season do the rebuild/retool right.
PLD is a good prospect to trade for at still 24... ;)

Going too quick with shortcuts is what will prevent those guys winning in the long run, not the couples of years of wait for them to be well surrounded.
Acquiring Dubois is not a shortcut. It's a move that supports the rebuild long term.

People tend to forget about 1 thing. People asked his agent if he would like to play for MTL and he said yes. They never asked if he would like to play elsewhere...

There’s a dozen other mentions of him wanting to be in Montreal from various writers including Arpon Basu/Murat Ates who wrote that PLD attended last years start thinking he was being acquired by the Habs. Kypreos has stated he’s coming to Montreal and has made it known -

"I see him in Montreal this summer at 100 miles per hour. He will not stay in Winnipeg long term. From what I hear, nothing will change his mind, not even a Stanley Cup!”

Elliot Friedman also weighed in:

"Jets have talked to the Canadiens on and off about Dubois, we know that Dubois is gonna end up there 95%, is there someway we can make a deal so the Canadiens get him earlier and we get something we want? They've talked about that"

Lebrun has talked about Montreal and the Jets having had extensive talks about PLD.

But yeah. The agent only mentioning Montreal was an isolated incident of accidentally spilling the beans on one team. Pat Brisson is known for being not that smart in negotiations and in the media. Probably a complete accident on his behalf.

PLD is pretty much the perfect winger for Nick and Cole. Takes strong side faceoffs, is clearly capable of playing with skilled players and being the physical presence.
The perfect winger for Suzuki would play short-handed often, PLD would be perfect.

I don't know if I'm trolling since I never watch PLD play but would he really be perfect for what we need?

Speculation from a couple with credibility as good as Eklund’s.

Acquiring someone Suzuki’s age is a shortcut, and therefore unacceptable. We mustn’t mortgage the future.

That doesn't hold any more value if the rumours are true tho
If Hughes doesn’t make a play to acquire him, some other GM will. The rumours don’t say PLD only wants the Habs.

Was Dach trade "too quick shortcut"?
PLD trade would most probably be very similar if Florida pick is included, but PLD is way more proven player than Dach was.

Exactly. He's not only coming to the Habs. lol He probably would prefer it but there are maybe interesting options. Just happens that Columbus and Winnipeg were not interesting for him.

Look at how many goals buffalo's top 9 scored. When you have a tandem of Montembault and Allen in this division you don't have a hope.

Also there's zero chance gurianov is qualified if we get a top 2 pick and dubois. I would say it's unlikely he gets qualified even as of now.
Montembeault ranked between the 10-15 best goaler this season on a GSAx basis.

The thing is, the goalie better than him are usually legit, established number one, and untouchable.

The goaler in the same tier are always available in bunch every summer, choppy, inconsistent and not better than him.

The sample size is still small, but Montembeault is at the top of the 2nd tier of goaltender. He is an adequate number one and we are in business with him. Him playing for .500 with the absolute shitty teams he had is wow.
