Apparently Sanchez is likely to move to the pen once he nears his innings limit.

Anyone have any idea what this limit will be?

I don't know much about this sort of thing, and I've heard anywhere from 130 - 170 innings as possible limits for Sanchez this year.

If you are happy that the likes of floyd chavez and hutch make us legit 8 deep in SP, you should be even more confident that they will be even bigger upgrades to the bullpen.

Floyd and Hutch have been starters their entire careers and Chavez found his groove (such as it is...) the past 2 years as mostly a starter, so while I think they give us as a quality 6 though 8 SP option...I'm not super comfortable with any of them in the pen outside of long relief.

For instance, look at Floyd. He's a 5-pitch guy who threw his FB roughly 35% as a starter, as that wasn't one of his best pitches. Out of the pen, in very limited appearances, he went to his FB about 60% of the time...which is what you do, since you don't have as much opportunity to locate your off-speed stuff. This really limited the usage of his best pitches, his curve and his cutter.

If there are better options for the rotation ahead of him, then that's fine. While they are key components to his arsenal as a starter, you don't necessarily need to utilize them as often as a reliever. So shaving off a percentage of pitches thrown for a pitch or two isn't necessarily a bad thing. The upshot is that he'll likely gain a mph or two on his fastball.

I don't think he'll be as good as he was in his small sample size of pitching out of the pen last year (held batters to a .260slg). However out of the 5-6-7 guys I think he'll fair the best.

pitchers are virtually always better in the pen than in the rotation, as their stuff both plays up , and they can accentuate the pitches they want to. If you're comfortable with them as starters imo you should be pumped to have them as relievers.

Choate was just released which is likely good news for Loup or Venditte. As well Biagini makes the roster with the bullpen.

Apparently they're hoping to re sign him to a new deal. The one he had included a 100k retention on the 40 man or something to that affect. I'm surprised they even bothered giving Delabar a deal. I know they walked away but they still have to pay him for like 45 days service. Seems like a waste of like 1 or 200k.

given his track record i'm a little worried about Cola's tepid spring. He had the starting job but he may have lost it already to the red hot smoak. At least, his leash is now shorter.

I think they were always going to platoon the two of them. If anything the first 2 weeks will be an indicator of who to roll with more often. Not spring training. Curious to hear if EE will start the year with the team.

I was a bit concerned about Colabello all offseason. I expect Smoak to get more and more playing time as the season goes along.

But what do you demand in a trade for a guy that people expected you to resign?

Young players and prospects. Exactly what any selling team asks for at the deadline. Maybe you get a guy who can find a place on the team in the near future like Devon Travis. And if not, the worst case is that you now have plenty of shiny capital to go pick the bones of failed teams during the off season when prices come down.
