Zaun was pretty hard on Stroman going into the post season last year and actually suggested the team start Mark Buehrle over him. And yes, this was after Buehrle couldn't make it out of the first inning in that last game.

Zaun is an idiot.

Using Buehrle's last game against him isn't fair. He was on like 2 days rest trying to get him to 200ip on the season.

That game meant nothing the the scheme of whether or not Mark should start in the playoffs.

With Sanchez in the rotation, I think our starting pitching staff is in solid shape to start the season, despite the rankings published by a certain media outlet.

It will be interesting to watch how his innings are managed throughout the season.

I'm really hoping they just shuffle guys around to either skip starts here and there or start him every 6th day whenever possible. If he ends up being a solid contributor out of the rotation, the last thing you want is a Strasburg-type situation where he's being shut down for the end of the season and playoffs.

No, but Zaun still advocated using an inferior pitcher because Stroman, who spent the previous six months rehabbing and working his ass off to get back into game action much sooner than anyone expected, "hadn't earned it".

Agreed. Imagine him being shelved in the heat of a pennant race? They are going to have to get creative in order to keep him in some sort of rhythm heading into the stretch drive.

Hey guys, kind of off topic.

Does anyone know of any Jays Shop promo codes that are valid?

I was about to put in an order, and saw the option to submit a code, so I figured I would try and track one down.

Cheers!

Choate was just released which is likely good news for Loup or Venditte. As well Biagini makes the roster with the bullpen.

Loup would be the second lefty if he were healthy, but Choate being released basically means Venditte is in.

So, barring a late change, it looks like it'll be Storen, Osuna, Cecil, Venditte, Biagini, Floyd, Chavez. That looks really strong, and it's probably not too far off what most of us expected before Spring Training started.

How comfortable are you with Venditte and Biagini?

Also, with both Floyd and Chavez on the roster, I think Gibbons has very real intent to feature Chavez in some late-inning high leverage situations. That makes me real nervous.

I'm comfortable with both of them because they're basically the 6th and 7th man out of the pen, so they can be used in low leverage situations until they see if they can succeed there. I love the idea of Venditte as a LOOGY, especially since they have Girodo around as a back-up and Loup coming back eventually (hopefully...)

With Storen, Osuna, and Cecil, I don't see there being many high leverage situations being available to go to Chavez.

Our SP is 8-man deep at the moment, which is terrific. We won't be seeing a Francis starting for us this season, I don't think.

On the other hand, our awesome year-end pen from the past season has now lost Sanchez, Hendricks, Lowe and Hawkins, and has replaced them with Storen, a couple of long relievers and a bunch of journeymen. Still much better than what we'd started with last year, but we're again relying on catching a couple of breaks there.

If you are happy that the likes of floyd chavez and hutch make us legit 8 deep in SP, you should be even more confident that they will be even bigger upgrades to the bullpen.

My take on the bullpen:

1.Storen
2.Osuna
3.Cecil

4.Floyd - replaces Sanchez as the highest lev reliever after the big three.
5.Loup - loogy
6.Chavez - primary longman

7.My favorite here would actually be Hernandez. He's a legit mlber and has very nice small samlple relief stats in recent years. But I also like Biagini's upsde, so he'd be fine. I don't think much of Leon, or schultz or Delabar.

8.Loup Replacement: I'm not a Venditte believer. I think he's bad. I'm also glad choate is gone. I'd go with reverse splits Tepera or Girodo.

I never argued otherwise did I?

None of my post said whether I agreed or disagreed with Zaun's opinion, Stroman's efforts and rehab. Just saying that using Mark's last game against him isn't fair. That's it.

Venditte's numbers against lefties have been spectacular the last two years, both in the minors and in his brief major league stint. I like the idea of giving him a chance.

Also, it sounds like Hernandez is going to opt-out.

When you start your response to someone with "No," I would take that as an implication you are arguing my point.

"No" was actually in agreement with you... as in "No, you shouldn't use that one start as a reason to keep Buehrle out of the playoff rotation." The "but" part was just piling on Zaun's stupidity.

Well I'm sorry, I didn't read it that way. I don't usually take no as a term of agreement.

And yet this guy has aspirations of being in a pivotal front office role for Blue Jays management, talk about dreams of grandeur.

Also of note, Cubs cut Munenori Kawasaki. #bringmunihome? :-P
