Well, if you're going to be wrong....

I don't even know how to finish that...I guess, be as loud and as dumb as possible? I don't know.

I'm reminded of an extra on one of the Futurama DVDs I have:

"Louder and Angrier: The Penn Jillette school of acting."

Clearly Zaun is a graduate of that school

I am really happy for Sanchez and I believe he was the most deserving candidate for the starting job. He probably is going to be the 2nd guy behind Stroman and I project him to be a 150 innings guy this season

1) Stroman 170 -185 innings
2) Sanchez 140 - 160 innings
3) Estrada 160 - 180 innings
4) Happ 160 - 180 innings
5) Dickie 180 - 200 innings

1) Chavez - Long reliever
2) Floyd - Long reliever

Other Relievers
1) Osuna
2) Cecil
3) Storen

Tapera / Delabar / Loup / Schultz

We really need our long relievers to really chip in a lot of innings, as Dickie is the only starter who can give you close to 200 innings. On average you need approx. 1600 innings in a season

How would you project the season in terms of # of innings pitched by these starter and your long relieve pitchers

I dont think you'll see either of Tepera or Schultz. Id think Leon and Biagani have better shots given their lack of options.

Best of luck with Montero. Was always a massive fan and hope he figures it out.

Behold, the no-longer-fat Montero:

Like was mentioned earlier though, heavy or not, he still kinda sucks as an MLB player.

So the Braves just released Nick Swisher.

I'm just thankful the Jays seem to be a in a reasonably decent spot in terms of OF and DH depth.

Zaun and Sportsnet going full on derp mode tonight. Watching the Zaun interview on PTS and he is going on about Stroman being a flash in the pan and his future is as a one inning reliever really doubling down on the **** he spewed last year, so I switch to Tim and Sid and they have a quote from a "scout" saying Sanchez would be the opening day starter on 15 teams in baseball  Yup baseball is back.

Simply put, Zaun is the equivalent of Don Cherry (or tries to be). He purposely says stuff that might be controversial or cause an uproar and just goes with it. He's a TV troll essentially.

Wait a minute, is that supposed to be a compliment to Stroman? Or is that a shot at Stroman?

Did they specify that it was a baseball scout? I'm guessing it wasn't, and if it somehow was, I guarantee he's not currently employed by a baseball team.

Ah, opening day inching closer and closer. Going to be nice to be an active poster in the Jays' threads again. The offseason was too long. Hopefully, no more Happ = Jo-Jo Reyes talk or Shapiro and Atkins are the equivalent of Rob Babcock or Mike Milbury.

Just one more thing: Who is the Nylander equivalent in baseball? :sarcasm:

Zaun being an idiot, nothing new. It's going to be hilarious though, when Stroman pitches gems consistently. Zaun will stick to his guns and just make himself look like a bigger idiot.

Our SP is 8-man deep at the moment, which is terrific. We won't be seeing a Francis starting for us this season, I don't think.

On the other hand, our awesome year-end pen from the past season has now lost Sanchez, Hendricks, Lowe and Hawkins, and has replaced them with Storen, a couple of long relievers and a bunch of journeymen. Still much better than what we'd started with last year, but we're again relying on catching a couple of breaks there.

We have Cecil, Storen, and Osuna. That's still pretty good.

Zaun was pretty hard on Stroman going into the post season last year and actually suggested the team start Mark Buehrle over him. And yes, this was after Buehrle couldn't make it out of the first inning in that last game.

Zaun is an idiot.

Hawkins wasn't all that great, and given the volatility of relievers who's to say that the "couple of long relievers and journeymen" can't fill that void? You've still got Storen, Osuna, Cecil as your 7-9 back-end, Floyd showed flashes as a solid pen guy last year, Biagini and Leon have looked solid in the spring. Chavez has had spurts of good success in the last couple years that could probably be sustained for a while in the pen. All it takes is a couple of those guys looking solid and what already looks like a pretty capable pen is just as solid as it was last year.

and for as much as you can count on spring training problems, both Lowe and Hendriks haven't been terribly impressive in the spring.

Does the pen look lock-down set and dominant out of the gate this year? Probably not. But the pieces are there and the depth is there for them to tinker. with the volatility of pen arms, having some solid anchors and the depth to fiddle with lesser pieces until you find the right fits is pretty much all you can ask for. Even with all the love the Yankees' supposed uber-pen gets, are they lights-out dominant after the vaunted Chapman/Betances/Miller trio? Cause I'd be hard-pressed to name off the rest of their pen after that group, or anoint any of them as world-beaters or sure things.

With Sanchez in the rotation, I think our starting pitching staff is in solid shape to start the season, despite the rankings published by a certain media outlet.

It will be interesting to watch how his innings are managed throughout the season.
