This was his chance to show everyone he is better then McDavid and get drafted first overall.

Both are going to go back to their leagues and dominate but McDavid is pretty much a lock for first pick now

Do you guys agree? Or do you think Eichel still has a shot to be the first pick.

McDavid will likely get #1 , but Eichel looks legit. Whoever gets Eichel should have a #1 Centre for a long time.

He's no David Legwand.

Playing on the same level of competition, if he could outplay McDavid then it would help his chances alot more.

I think McDavid will go #1 especially since how well he has been playing at the World Juniors, outplaying Eichel. I think McDavid is just about a lock if he plays as expected in the OHL and goes into the playoffs, going deep into the playoffs and winning the Memorial Cup is a 100% lock.

My Bias aside;
While the tournament wasn't the greatest showing for Eichel or Team USA for the matter, i dont think the race is quiet over...McDavid could return to Erie and go on a really cold streak and Eichel could start a 3PPG pace...

I was there for the Canada vs USA game on the 31st, Eichel was very much non-existent, where as McDavid had shown flashes of that special talent he has, and the reason he has been touted first overall since he was 14....And the game tonight vs Denmark confirmed he is only shaking off more rust.

With my Bias;

McDavid 1st Overall AINEC

oh no, he won't get picked 1st overall. It's all over for him.

Except he will still be an amazing NHL player so it doesn't really mater at all.

I don't think he would have had much a shot anyway unless McDavid had a serious injury, just cause McDavid has been hyped as the next one for like forever now.

Barring an major injury, McDavid goes first. No looking back now.

I don't think this tourney matters one way or the other, although it probably doesn't help his cause.

I don't care what the scouts say publicly, McDavid is and has been the consensus number 1 pick all along and nothing short of a colossal failure in Erie for the rest of the season will change that. Even that likely wouldn't matter. McDavid has been tagged "franchise player" since he was 15. No team is going to pass that up and look idiotic when he becomes the next Crosby or Ovechkin, no matter how good Eichel gets.

Eichel never really had a shot at #1, IMO. I don't think this short tournament changed his stock much at all in either direction.

I don't know that the #1 spot was ever up for grabs, but also I don't see why it matters so much. Both players are going to make whoever drafts them very happy. 1OA is a nice distinction but ultimately has little bearing on how their respective careers will play out. I do think McDavid is slightly better, but the amount of success each has in the league will be in some part a crapshoot.

And CAN-US stuff aside, I'm really looking forward to seeing both in the show.

I don't think he ever had a chance.

Does any team really want to be the team that passed on McDavid?

Agreed.

And yes, agree on the second paragraph, McDavid has hype, he looks like a franchise player, even if he was to have a poor tournament he will still go number 1. Yakupov (Never looked franchise) did not even score a goal in the 2012 WJC and still went number 1. The year before that Panarin was one of the best players in the gold medal Russian side, scored twice against Canada in the final, he went undrafted and is currently a PPG player in the KHL.

The tournament is not the decisive factor, McDavid was always going number 1. Having said that, I do like Eichel.

Which game will transition best to the nhl ? thats who will be picked first

mcD game is about outside along boards and down low behind net
jE is quaterbacking a mid ice game

Either way, its not by point getting in playing slovakia denmark and germany that you now know who
