Would be nice if Houck falls to us.

Ehhh; his stuff is down and his arm action and delivery have apparently both regressed. Reliever type delivery; secondary pitches all inconsistent. He wouldn't even really be a "fall" to us anymore as his stock is now in the back third of the first round.

Apparently his velocity has started to pick up lately (at least that is what Jim Callis says) but I agree with you. Either he continues his picked up velocity and likely won't be available when the Jays pick, or his lowered velocity comes back, and the Jays can pick him, but I never like to pick up a pitcher who's stock has fallen for velocity reasons.

Reminds me of Jon Harris who many thought was "steal" for us because he had shown much better stuff in the past. I don't like drafting pitchers with declining stuff/mechanics and hoping that they can go back to performing like they did a year+ ago.

Edit: He's pitching right now against South Carolina. Given up 2 ER on a HR and 2B so far.

I'm glad gibby doesn't let grilli face lefties anymore....but i'm not sure we can afford to keep trotting him out there at all.

Tomorrow is a Sunday home game, so I assume they're wearing those red alternate jerseys.

So which Jays pitcher is going to continue the tradition of getting hurt wearing that jersey. Probably going to be Sanchez again :(

He's been pre Jays trade Grilli this year. Struggling in low leverage situations. Are they keeping in because of the Grill cheese thing lol

following the new New Hampshire game right now and just realized that altoona (pirates AA affiliate) has a middle infield combo of Newman and Kramer.

Jon Harris is getting roughed up. Lots of loud contact.

But seriously I am really liking this batting approach the team is taking. And we get gettng results because of it. I was pretty pessimistic with the team at the middle of April. Went to the Friday game against the rays and it was bad baseball. Went to the opening game against cleavland and it just looked like two different teams.

We are only going to get healthier and better as the season progresses.
3.5 back.

Seth Romero was just kicked off the baseball team; 3rd incident in like a year. I think he's out of the 1st round, but I'd look at him in the 2nd for sure.

Evan White might be the most interesting of the college bats linked to us. Some people think that he can play CF. I really like how he's shown real improvement in both power and strikeouts in all three of his seasons. There's still some physical project left in his body as well

Good call. Was just about to mention him. He's one of the players I really like for one of our picks. I also like what I've seen from Enlow but not sure if he's on our radar.

Actually, they'll be wearing the pink uniforms they wore today. It's for Mother's Day weekend.

Random things I noticed browsing fangraphs.

Biagini tops our team in fWAR at 1.0 and is 26th in the majors for pitchers. Pillar tops our hitters at 0.8 fWAR and is 3rd last in WPA at -0.78. Donaldson is 2nd on the team in WPA(behind Biagini) at 0.81 despite only playing 9 games. Osuna is a pretty awful -0.56, must have been those blown saves early in the year.

Wanted to dive into how Pillar has performed in high leverage situations because this was very odd. Similar to how Saunders last year had a scorching hot 1st half but was actually brutal in high leverage spots and in turn was a net negative in WPA.

In Pillar's 22 highest leverage situations at the plate, he's 1 for 20, with a double, a walk, and a sac bunt.(and the sac bunt decreased our chances of winning, yay for getting out on purpose)

Clutch isn't a repeatable skill, so this is more than likely probably just dumb luck, and Pillar has had a bit of a renaissance at the plate this year. But I hope he starts doing it in high leverage situations too. Because because of his failures in high leverage spots right now his WPA is actually decreasing our chances of winning games instead of the opposite. But I'm confident he will because clutch isn't really a skill. If he's doing it in low and medium leverage spots he can do it in high leverage spots as well.

In unrelated news, Travis has been absolutely brutal. Obviously, all his numbers show that and not just the more advanced ones. His WPA is twice as bad as any other hitter, and almost any other player. When Tulo and JD are back how often does travis play? Barney is likely starting most of the time based on their current numbers, but Travis is your guy and you want him to get out of it and not just be a bench player for the rest of the year.

fwiw he was awesome in high leverage spots last year with a wRC+ of 127, 69 in low leverage. Just one of those quirky things I guess.

Clutch is absoloutly a skill. Hitting in the bottom of the 9th with 2 runners on and two out while down a run is so much harder then hitting in the first inning up 1 with 2 runners on and 2 out.

Anyone who has played sports know this. Winners win.

Weird that no one is ever able to sustain excellent clutch numbers over long stretches, then. But yay for anecdotal evidence!
