hey guys is Danny Jansen a legit catching prospect? I mean will he stay a catcher he is playing really well (by box score), he and Pentecost seem to be sharing the C role in A+ but Jansen seems to catch more

Jansen is generally seen as a solid catcher. Pentecost isn't catching much because he's still working his way back from major shoulder surgeries.

That's actually a legitimate discussion question, arguing over who's right and wrong about obscure specifics isn't.

Yeah, that's way better than arguing semantics over the difference in difficulty between minor league levels.

Maese threw a complete game last night with 7 K's and 1 BB.

I had been following the minor league games yesterday, and apparently I didn't notice the last couple innings, because, despite the run prevention, Maese had a fairly disappointing start with just two strikeouts through five. That's a hell of a finish to turn in a really nice start.

If we can continue to chip away and have a .500 record by the time we get all our injured players back, we just might be able to salvage the season.

Seattle and Atlanta on deck. Win those series and we are back in play with players getting healthy. Shocking how the season might not be over after 30 games in av162 game schedule.

Danny has been one of my faves for a while. Injuries have slowed him down the past couple years but imo he's an excellent prospect, not just a legit one. He's not too athletic but they love his receiving/gamecalling ability, and imo his bat is for real.

I'm still not seeing Pentecost as a legit prospect yet. Hitting well with not great bb/k numbers as a 24yr old in single A isn't enough quite yet, imo.

Does his former draft pedigree, performance in the cape cod with wooden bats, and consistent ability to place bat to ball in his limited time as a pro not carry any weight?

sure. it's the only reason i'd pay any attention to a 24yr old in A+ at all, really.

but i'll put it this way - his line right now is less impressive than Zeuch's, and Zeuch is 3yrs younger with similar draft pedigree.

If they decide he's not going to catch, I can see them moving him aggressively through the system to see if his bat can keep up. If they want him to be a catcher, I expect they'll still slow-play it for a while as he gets his defensive game together.

Sure, I wouldn't disagree with that. They suffer from similar issues to me. One doesn't walk enough (4.6%, Pentecost) and the other doesn't strikeout enough (6.69 k/9, 17% k%, Zeuch) for one to truly buy into them. Now, that doesn't mean both's skills won't translate, it just adds a layer of uncertainty.

I think the Jays are crazy not permanently transitioning Pentecost to a new position. Injury prone minor league catchers don't miraculously become iron men. Catching is brutal on the body and requires a lot of punishing repetition to get good at it. He's already way in the hole. He's got a bat to justify at another position.

MLB.com (Jim Callis) released their first full mock draft:

22. Blue Jays: Keston Hiura, OF/2B, UC Irvine

Toronto gets mentioned with any number of college bats, including Burger, White, Hiura and Warmoth. At least one of them should make it to No. 22.
28. Blue Jays: Nate Pearson, RHP, JC of Central Florida

Pearson and another junior college standout, State JC of Florida at Manatee-Sarasota left-hander Brendon Little, both figure to go between the last 10 picks of the first round and the first five of the second round

Haven't really spent much time reviewing the draft prospects this year but I'm a bit surprised they have the jays taking two college players.

Seems like the jays are linked to a lot of the college bats in round 1 so I wonder if they plan to diversify money to some helium high schoolers later in the draft. Would love another Bo Bichette type bat in round 2.

Somehow they're only 4.5 games out of a playoff spot. Still a ton of teams to catch, but if they can go 5-2 or 6-1 in this Seattle-Atlanta stretch they'll have mostly dug themselves out of that early hole. Which is astonishing given their injury issues. These games are *massive* though.
