It has been ten years since the Steckel on Crosby hit.

Always thought it was Crosby's fault, he skates towards the guy, turns his head and Steckel is chasing the play, not even looking at Crosby.
Steckel's height and Crosby's head being turned made it much worse than it should have been.
Crosby was right in front of him. It's not like he didn't see him.

Do you feel old?

Yes. I remember watching this game w/ my Grandma (RIP). Grandma got into Hockey during the 2002 and 2006 Canes playoffs and out of most of my family members was the only one who even seemed to know who Sidney Crosby and/or Alex Ovechkin were.

As for the hit, I really don't remember it too well. I may have been browsing my laptop during that time but I do remember there was a thread here about it that turned nasty pretty quickly.

I honestly don't see how that could be seen as intentional. Steckel even tilts his right side down as you do to avoid contact, but he's going straight already and Crosby is in a hard right turn. But Steckel never changes direction, he's clearly looking up towards the puck and skating right to it. It's unfortunate, but not intentional

I'll never forget when that journalist hack Dave Molinari wrote an article about Crosby and then in the middle of it in all caps wrote "SIX YEARS AGO IT WAS STECKEL, WHO INTENTIONALLY TRIED TO END CROSBYS CAREER", the article had 0 to do with the unfortunate injury he suffered.

Agreed. I don't think we'd have the concussion protocol we have today if that hit didn't happen. Also less tolerance for blindside hits.

Wrong. It was this horrible act by Cooke that made the league start their crackdown.

I have no idea how Cooke has such a lack of integrity and honor to look himself in the mirror after that career. Piece of intent to injure filth.

I'm not a huge Evander Kane fan, but anytime to find myself ready to criticize him a little voice in the back of my head reminds me about the time he KO'd Matt Cooke and then I cut Kane some slack.

This is the first time I have really viewed these replays. It kind of looks to me like Steckel was trying to avoid contact toward the left and it was just an unfortunate collision. I don’t know Steckel well, was he known for hits of this nature?
Steckel is the softest 6'6 Center of all time. Which makes this nonsense even funnier

I watched this live and remember thinking it was an incredibly malicious hit. The replay looks more incidental but I don't doubt that Steckel wanted to clip him.

The Steckel collision caused him to miss what could’ve been his best season, so it did affect his legacy.

Otherwise though, he had a good chunk of his success after that. Racked up the Hart, Lindsay, Art Ross, Rocket, CS and SC. It wasn’t a career altering incident, just a temporary setback.

Apples and oranges, clearly. Not even remotely comparable, not even Marchand who has his share of bad plays but is generally an agitator.

Apples and oranges because it is the Bruins on another player.

What exactly was Thornton trying to do to Orpik, eh?

Penguins will call out Cooke. Let’s talk about the goons the Bruins have employed since 1970. Your team’s identity is built on taking liberties.

Still a lazy reach by you.

Find the other instances of Thornton attempting to injure. By the way, he at least was defending a teammate after Orpik eliminated Eriksson.

Find the numerous attempts to injure by Chara over his large sample size of a career.

Cooke is at the top of the list of NHL scum unfortunately, across his career.

If you think the Bruins identity is built on taking liberties at this point, I have something else to sell you. Softest team in the NHL the last five seasons.
