I wonder if the people screaming fire Sweeney and hate all this are the same people who have been screaming bring up Lysell and Merkulov and let the kids play?

I'm thinking the people who don't like it just don't understand aging. Team was getting old and was slow. A golden era of competitive teams always has to end. These moves instantly make the team younger and faster along with adding draft capital. To my mind Sweeney did absolutely everything he could to make that happen and he got good returns.

Now they build. I love it and I hope Marchand gets a ring out of it too. I'd also welcome him back for 2 years but that's up to him.

If not for the Marchand trade, irons have given them an A+ but emotionally I couldn’t. Still, Sweeney did enough to earn an A- from me (I know he was waiting for my grade). 😂

A-. Don't like the Marchand deal but I get it. Outside of that, he restocked the draft for 2025 and 2026 and we got decent players back in return who have strong upside to them. Most of all, his assessment of the season and of himself was honest and blunt. I feel like a needed shift in the organization happened yesterday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that 63 will be back July 1.

Agree 100%. Got rid of Freddy and Brazzeau who were not being even considered for resigning. Coyle who was a shadow of himself and Marshand who probably isn't going to play before the POs that we aren't making and was also looking for more years than DS was going to give him. Then you add Carlo, who really only had one attribute and that was PK. So we got younger , faster, extra draft picks, and have money to sign players in the off season. Can even sign Marshand in the off season which means you lost pretty much nothing!

Pasta must be thrilled that his best years will be wasted on a rebuilding team.
He will ask to be traded to a contender in a year of two.

Zacha is nowhere near to Bergeron or Krejci talent level.
Geekie is a middle 6 player, nice jump in goals production but was no show at the start of the season.

The rest of forwards is meh.

A.
This was long overdue.
We will be better sooner from this.
We will be active this summer via trades and free agency too.
It only gets better from then on.

Gave them a B. Probably should have been a B+, but I can’t get overly excited until I see who they draft or who they acquire with these assets. The selling off is only 35-40% of the battle.

I give them credit for doing what they needed to do instead of standing pat.

Couple questions:

Do you really think Mittlestadt is a top 6 center? He seems at best Coyle, whom I’d not call a top 6 center. And the value in this deal says they agreed he wasn’t Coyle level.

On Marchand, it’s interesting to me that they traded two assistant captains and their captain. I’m taking from that more than just coincidence. I’m wondering - any chance they have no intention of bringing him back?
I do think Mittelstadt is a top6 center. He’s 26, a former 10th overall pick, and he put up 55-60 points the last 2 seasons. That’s top6 production. He certainly didn’t play that way in the second half for Colorado this year. I don’t know what happened there, but I think the Bruins are hoping they found another Zacha.

On trading all the leadership, I agree that’s not an accident. They showed up out of shape, they underperformed, they let the cultural identity slip… boom goes the dynamite. Message sent, that’s not ok.

In terms of bringing Marchand back. I do think they will make an offer. His struggles were related to his surgeries not a lack of effort, preparation or compete level. Even Monty remarked in camp how the pace suddenly improved by getting him back on the ice. I think the question is, will the Bruins cave to the extra year(s) or will Marchand agree to a shorter term?

You can bring this up in free agency and throw it in my face if I’m wrong.

0.0 he’s back in Boston. I doubt they’ll even talk.

Sweeney and Bruins management don’t want him back.

I wouldn't rub it in your face, but I hope you're wrong. They did try to sign him. I can understand Boston wanting to protect themselves against inury/decline since 35+ contracts can't be bought out or buried. That's high risk for a guy coming off 3 surgeries who plays the way Marchand does.

Ownership was apparently willing to go three years, only saying so because Sweeney reportedly had to go back to Ownership to see if they could go 3 years, but for me the offer sounded fair if in all accounts what Freidman was reporting is true, that it was a 3 year deal and Marchand wouldn't be taking a pay cut.

That would be 6plus mil a year for Brad until he's 40. Problem being brads been underpaid for years now and with the Contracts Sweeney has handed out giving far less players more than Brad, it had to affect Brads decision on wanting more, basically though it would of been for past production. Too bad they just couldn't agree on a deal, year by year until he's 40.

Kind of like the last time Sweeney made a huge splash with trading looch and Hamilton. Loaded up on picks, but clearly a huge let down on where he went with them.

Hopefully this time around its a home-run or two, it all depends on the way they develop down the road or how you use the picks he's collected. One thing for sure this team has a hell of a lot more assets today than they did a few days ago, now lets see what Sweeney does moving forward

I would of kept Marchand though unless he asked to go to Florida which hopefully he did, and now im hoping he and the Cats meet all the conditions invloved in the deal, and the Panthers absolutly suck in 2028.
