if Islanders trade Boychuk now I am curious what Lou has up. between Boychuk and Toews potential caphits, they might have enough to sign somebody like Hoffman

They have to sign Pullock and Barzal. Pullock probably gets $6.5M on 5 yr contract
Barzal om a bridge for $5M
Fill out roster if they trade a player ar about $2.M for 2.

Thry need to free $13.5M in space

Right now they have 12/6/2 with $8.9M.

Unloading $6M on Boychuk gets it done.

Boychuk and a pick or prospect for Kesler. Both have two years left. Islanders could put Kesler on LTRI for cap purposes. Kesler would have to waive his NMC but he probably would considering he'll never play another NHL game. Ducks get another RHD with a big point shot. Win-win.

"Boychuk would be a great fit on our blueline" - J. Benning (he didnt actually say that...but definitely sounds like something he'd say)

Even with trading Toews and maybe Boychuk the Islanders have enough D

Pelech - Pulock
Leddy - Dobson
Greene - Mayfield
Aho - Hutton
Bloduc - Wilde

Most likely Pelech, Pulock, & Mayfield, and then 7 forwards. Dobson, Aho, Hutton, Bolduc and Wilde are not expansion eligible. Leddy and Greene would not be protected.

This is a tough call, if Islanders protect Aho, they basically force Seattle to either pick a 5M+ contract or a average prospect

Who do they protect in expansion?
No easy answer other than what Boredmale said. Dobson is exempt and you need to protect Pelech and Pulock. That means exposing one of Leddy or Mayfield. Forward wise is a similar discussion. My guess is that they leave Leddy(5.5M cap/7M Salary) exposed

The Ducks don't have any cap space. As it stands they need Kesler just to create enough LTIR space.

I think Aho only has to be protected if he plays 40 games next season? I could be wrong. But depending on who comes back on D, he might be under that number?

Nope even if he plays the full season in the minors he has to be protected since he has played more than 2 professional seasons(this upcoming one is his 4th). As I said if he isn't protected I wouldn't be surprised if Seattle picks him since they don't want a big contract(bellow is another I could see even with his recent PED violation who might get the cheap contract prospect look)

Ridiculously overpaid at $5.25m combined for the next 2 seasons?
You lose whatever credibility you had with that comment. Boychuk is still a solid #5 RHD and a good locker room leader.
He is not worth his $6m caphit, but he is very much worth $2.75m in actual cash salary for the next two seasons.

Some of these Boychuk comments have me wondering if the posters actually watch Boychuk play.
Pretty sure Boychuck is unmoveable. He’s past his prime and has term remaining- a terrible combination. Isles had to sell Toews as a result. If Boychuck was moveable Toews would still be in the fold.

Zach Boychuk follows me on Twitter.

That is all.

NVM, wrong Boychuk.

I tried explaining it to that poster before, he just kept babbling about his salary being lower than his cap hit.
