Islander player you secretly liked

Only time Bossy was ever held in check and I ever saw him totally frustrated cause he couldn't score, was in the epic 78-79 ECF we had with the Islanders that we won as JD and the boys held Bossy to incredibly just one goal the entire 6 game series.

Incredible feat by the Rangers cause as you say, Bossy just might be the best pure sniper in NHL history. His shot was pure filth!!
 
I think we can view this as what player(s) do we admire enough we could accept here, even if they were previously/notably with a rival.

Agree LaFontaine was all class.
Flatley was solid as well.

Of the current ones, wouldn't mind Dobson even tho our immediate top RD is a filled dance card.
 
Not ashamed to like any Islanders player considering they've been a dumpster fire since I started watching the Rangers in the mid-90's.

I'm also Upstate and get more annoyed by Sabres fans than Islanders fans. I also get annoyed by outsiders assuming Upstate is Sabres territory as well. Utica is not.
 
I would say Peca, Hamonic, Tavares, Doug Weight as a player and a coach. They do a good job out there.

As I've gotten older I have less animus towards local teams. When you know the folks you trash talk for a long time things become more civil. There hasn't been enough blood on the ice to cause some of that old school trash talking. The worst you get is an obnoxious celebration from an Isles fan. That's why the clapper from Zibs is going to live on. Last one to talk shit at the end of the night and all.

Pat Flatley, Mikko Makela, Mic Vukota, Lafontaine, Kelly Hrudey. That was before I had cable as a kid, so just getting to watch any hockey games was a treat. Back then the only team I didn't like was the Flyers, and the only player was Tim Kerr.

Blasphemy...Mic Vukota? Just might be the dirtiest Islander ever!. I think it was the '90 playoffs when James Patrick nailed Lafontaine with what was a very questionable hit and knocked him out of the series that we swept, Vukota and Baumgartner morphed into Dave Schultz and Dave Brown right after that and started beating the shit out of any Ranger that they could get their hands on.

Vukota? He had less than zero hockey skills. All the other guys you mention were good hockey players. Vukota was a UFC fighter wearing a jersey.

I DETESTED Vukota and Baumgartner. Moreso even than Bobby "Headbut" Nystrom.

Dude as I said in my comment about Vukota, I might hate him more than any Islander in my lifetime. Check that...I gotta go with Potvin but Vukota is neck and neck with him.

No attempt here to hijack this thread but I can't help but list my top 5 hated Islanders.

It would have to be in order Potvin, Vukota, Baumgartner, Bobby Nystrom and Duane Sutter who I couldn't friggen stand.
