It has to be Gillies. As a longtime Ranger fan too this day, I have a deep hatred for the Flyers probably even more so than the Islanders tho it's really close.

Anyways, sure he was quite skilled especially for a big guy but I loved the way Gillies stood up to Philly and the Broad Street Bullies all the time and took no shit. He intimidated them and he made Dave Schultz scared shitless as he would never screw around with Gillies. Even to a Ranger fan that was glorious to see.

I have a real antipathy for those Cup winning Islanders teams. Trottier's game was pretty similar IMO to Bobby Clarke's. Great player but sneaky dirty. Never really liked Gillies. Hard to argue with Bossy who was not only a great goal scorer but had an excellent two way game. Hated Denis Potvin and Billy Smith. Thought about Bourne, Goring, Morrow, Persson and it was kind of nah!

Someone brought up Kasparaitis--there's a good one. He was entertaining--a real pot stirrer. I liked him more after he became a Ranger. Haley created that major ass ruckus with the Penguins--that was cool.

I've had a few of my faovrites end up on the Islanders (Maloney, Smyth and Ladd come to mind).

I knew Sean Haggerty outside of hockey, so I always pulled for him when he was a prospect of theirs.

What no love for Potvin? The Ranger fans are the only people who remember the guy even played and he is a top 10 dman in the history of the game.
Just kidding. screw him and the horse he rode in on, but he was that good. Bossy is the one Islander I will always wish had been a Ranger.

If Panarin signed with them for the more money they offered, I would say him.

Thank the good lord that Bread didn't sign with them buggers otherwise they would have won the Cup this past year and likely would be huge threats to win a few more as he's exactly what friggen team needs and has needed for years.

So no thank you to even thinking about the nightmare that would have been Panarin on the Islanders.

I think the gap between the Bolts and Isles was more than Panarin. And I LOVE Panarin but he was a no show for the Rangers last year in the play-in round.

Stop a guy in the middle of the hottest hot streak I have ever seen on this team, and I expected him to come in with rust. It's excusable for me, he gets the one pass here.

I disagree. Panarin on the Islanders would have made them much more lethal and yes with him they would have had a much better chance to have beaten Tampa. Heck, the Isles extended the series to 6 games and they lost two of their games with the Bolts by just one goal. Panarin who notoriously has been a very good playoff performer easily could have been the difference.

Listen it's all hyperbole and hypothetical. Panarin is with us thank god. But don't for one second think that had he signed with the Islanders rather than us, that the Islanders wouldn't be an infinitely better hockey team and a serious threat for multiple Cups. Shit they already are a threat to win a Cup withough him.

With Panarin?...it's disturbing to even think about!

PA Parenteau, but that was more a case of knowing a guy didn't get a fair shake with the Rangers. I don't really hate the big names on the current Islanders team though

LaFontaine, Ziggy Palffy, Steve Thomas, Michael Peca, Kenny Jonsson (solid defenseman just could not stayed healthy) Webb (he was entertaining but he stunk as a player) I liked Asham as an Islander. Eric Cairns I liked as well. Rangers should have kept him.
