Not entirely character. Acoording to JD Bunkis it was Keefe that pissed off ROR. He refused to adapt their game plan against Florida. The obvious choice there was to break up Marner and Matthews which of course never happened. Once Keefe was announced a coach for next season plus higher taxes and cost of living etc. then ROR decided to move on.

It’s also possible that there’s a lot of crappy coaches in the NHL.
And Bunkis is wrong, ROR in his exit interview talked about on ice adjustments the players had to make in order to beat Fla and they wouldn't make them, they didn't respond, Xs and Os mean nothing if the players don't execute because they're being chicken shit. Players the needed to put their big boy pants on and didn't do it.

I think ROR wanted a player or two moved out and the money used for things the team needed that would make them more playoff ready, but all the talk became about how to pay one guy all the bread. So he said fine, see ya.

We've seen it before and is more money going to change the lack of any kind of a push back?

Anyone watch the way Stone responded or the way MacKinnon responded when the going got red hot tough. They both turned into wolves and the rest of the pack fell in line and feasted on the prey.

Our whole problem is matthews

He is controlling our team with his me first attitude

Everyone is bowing down to his demands. Cant sign anyone to multi year deals because we dont know the greedy pricks cap hit.

He doesn’t have the win at all cost attitude that real great players have. He is what he is a very good goal scorer who disappears when the going gets tough. Of course teams will play him tougher but instead of fighting through the aggression he backs off. If you give stamkos mackinnon or pasternak a cheap shot you better be careful because they are coming right back at you. Matthews smiles and hits them with his man purse.

He is 100 per cent our problem and management enables him to be.

TRUTH right there

We have 1 NHL ready prospect drafted by him in 5 years

What a legendary draft guru
The good thing is that once those picks have given up their hockey dreams all 16 of them can call up the clown car and get a ride home, or perhaps snag a role in a Wizard of Oz remake

For me, the first sign of problems was when keefe apologized publicly the day after some comments he’s made about his star players. The comments weren’t even that bad, and more importantly, they were true, yet he felt the need to apologize to them publicly and walk the comments back.

That’s the first sign last season that it was the players who run the show, and no one can touch them. It was the most ridiculous thing ever by keefe.
I've been saying that since it happened

I can guarantee you that pro athletes detest taxes with the kind of income they earn. They’re in the highest tax bracket.

That’s not projecting.
You mean those same players who don't understand why they have to pay into the escrow account?

OMG you're right and the guy got away with it.
Pure scum. Lost all respect for him.
Drunk driving at 4am.
Leaves (leafs?) the scene.
And gets away with it because our justice system is a total joke.

How is that a referendum on the justice system? The judge did the right thing IMO. There were two guys in the truck, and no witnesses that could ID which one was driving.

Bertuzzi is a cancer. He wanted to come to this cancerous team that O'Reilly didn't want to be part of lmaoooo. 🤭🤭🤫

What rights were restricted exactly?
Oh there are many but I think one of most egregious restrictions was denying relatives visiting rights to dying family members. Im confident an intelligent person like yourself can find many more examples on your own and that you dont need a stranger on HF boards pointing them out to you.

maybe ROR asked Keefe to take him off the first PP unit (no brainer) and Keefe refused because of ROR's winning pedigree and team-first mentality etc, how confounding would that be

why are so many players running their mouth to the media? Throwing coaches under the bus teammates under the bus. Pretty sad. And if the scuttlebutt in this thread is true glad ROR is gone. I get the feeling the players he told the coach to replace would end up with him being the one to replace them. Glad Keefe told him to take a hike.

ROR has been a complainer his entire career. I'd take it with a grain of salt.

Fans take these decisions so personally. Glad we got a player of his caliber, even for a fleeting moment, but now we move on. This is a business.

This is also why I would have preferred we continued building through the draft, to avoid these types of scenarios by building loyalty amongst our players.

While I really, really love the Bertuzzi and Domi signings.... This seems just like what the Leafs did last year (getting ROR and Acciari rentals).

The core 4 needs to be changed. Either mentally, or booted out. Nylander is probably traded for hopefully a prime Jake Muzzin type. But the question will become if Marner and Matthews can stop being entitled pukes, and play playoff hockey.

Maybe but we have more offence now.

Not that it matters atm, but sometimes the common good supercedes sentimentality.

One of the reasons Canada didn't have the relatively high per capita death rate as some other countries did was because most of our citizens made the hard choices that needed to be made. I lost my 92 year old mother and observed the conditions as required. I didn't like it, but I'm a grown up and logic prevailed. She didn't need to see me as she knew I thought about her daily.

Yea logic really prevailed

There's more than one problem.

But they all point to the same root cause. It all starts at the top, with Shanahan. It was his idea, his name on the Shanaplan.

So he takes all the blame.

It boggles my mind he still gets any support. Even from those predisposed to forgiving mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake. I can't believe he still has a job.

There's no logical argument that Shanahan was the most qualified candidate when he was hired in the first place.

Almost ten years later and that statement still holds true. The whole situation reeks of failure. They tricked themselves into believing a contending team could be built this way. Unintentionally shining a spotlight on Shanahan's inept presidency instead.

The guy is an unforced error machine when it comes to running a hockey team.

Is there a Wizard of Oz remake?

Alrighty.

Yep

We signed a 4c to a 10 million dollar contract, Ryan reeves who should be retired to 1.3 a year, Nylander is probably gone, we had big misses on players that wanted to stay here(Accari) and a very underwhelming draft.
And it's been less than a month.
Who traded away all the draft picks?
