Is the Golden Knights' problem Jack Eichel?

I've never been a fan of Eichel. I think he has a piss poor attitude and is the exact opposite of the type of player you win with. That being said, I think there are bigger issues with Vegas than Eichel. They hitched their wagon to players who're on the wrong side of age in an attempt to win it all fast. Can't fault them as they've come flying out of their gate. It was a bold move. But we're now going to start seeing the team take downward steps from here on out as their core get even older. Most of their money is tied up with aging Vets whose best games are behind them.

I suspect the Vegas Golden Knights will follow the San Jose Sharks decline curve in the 1.5 years after they acquired Erik Karlsson. Slowly, then all of a sudden all at once down to the bottom.

So true. When a team with high cap hit players are approaching or on the wrong side of 30, it never ever ends well in the cap era. If you take a look at all the cup champions in the cap era, all star players were 30 and under, rare exception ovie at 31 when they won.

Agreed. SJ are the exact team I think about when I look at Vegas.

But still, it's not "if only we were healthy we'd be in the playoffs" it's "if we were selectively healthy at the exact times and with the exact players that let us most effectively abuse a loophole".

Cheering for the team being 100% healthy all season is cheering for forfeiting the season and likely getting massive fines and draft pick penalties.
Nobody is saying any of that though. The team played 39 players this season (a new record for the team), and had 513 man-games lost this season.

I still wait to hear what he did to his hand/wrist when he blocked the shot a few weeks into his time in Vegas.

He's being dragged when it should be McCrimmon/McPhee for their over-burdened cap structure that wouldn't allow them to play the whole team when healthy. And DeBoer should be gone, even if they somehow keep McCrimmon around after his failures.

This aged like a wet gym sock soaked in spoiled milk.
It was the same thing with Tarasenko. Came back after a major injury lay-off, came back mid season likely not in perfect form as he didn’t have a healthy offseason to train, and the whole team was struggling that year. Said he would benefit from an offseason and he came back fine the following season

People were too eager to shit on Eichel. He came back after a long layoff from a neck injury and surgery, came back to a overall already struggling team and seemed like they had crap going on in the background at least between their goalie and coach on top of injury issues. Full healthy offseason, he’s back

The Sabres primary issue by far was the ‘Hockey Terrorist” coaching that team in eichels final season there

A coach Eichel loved FWIW…
Didn’t Krueger have a rep as a coach players liked? I’m pretty sure I read that about him

He can be a good person, Hockey terrorist doesn’t need to mean more than he’s a bad coach for the NHL lol. Though I’d assume Skinner doesn’t like him. He always seemed to have it out for Skinner

Also you won’t see many players go “our coach sucks so bad” openly for obvious reasons. Paul Maurice is another guy.

I’d be curious if there’s a story Eichel made the hiring decisions but otherwise I don’t see your point

Will this guy play ever again. 3 plus weeks on IR...

Was gonna make a thread but felt like it’d read like schadenfreude coming from a Sabres fan, and it really isn’t, I want Jack to be healthy at the very least- but is this dude injury prone af? I don’t usually buy into the idea that some guys are more prone to injury, but he’s had 2 ankle sprains, the neck, the thumb, and now a pulled hammy or somethin that has kept him out for an unexpectedly long time. Just kinda weird, hoping to see a full season from him while he’s still in his prime.

I completely agree. I think it's 9 games now. Will be tough to get to 95 points.

Just curious ( I don't watch as many Canucks games as I would like, let alone other teams) how is his defensive game this year? It didn't seem very strong in Buffalo but that was a long time ago. Can't argue with the Knights' record this year.

He's been solid defensively. Not gonna contend for any Selkes but he's good on the backcheck. Vegas is definitely missing his offense more though.

players get injured.

he played only 2 seasons of 74+ games which is >90% of the season. Maybe he needs McSorely with him.

He was out after Ristolainen hit him as well. Friendly fire...
