Huh?

So our plan is to bring back McD, let Stamkos walk and use $5.5M to get 2x top 6 forwards (including replacing a 40G scorer)??
We have moved out goals each of th he last three years. This will make it four. Remember the period when we were looking to add offense each summer and at the deadline? Well this ain’t it.

As it stands today, they have 2x top 6 holes (Stamkos included) - including 1x 40G scorer. We have $5.5M in cap available. I'm gonna guess there is a 0.0% chance our plan is to let Stamkos walk and fill the two top 6 roles with $2.5M players lol.

That just doesn't make any sense.

Guess so :dunno:

I cant see Stamkos signing anywhere else July 1. IMO, if he's leaving, its gonna drag out awhile.

Yep, exactly how I see it going. Lack of news on the negotiation front is the kiss of death on his return IMO, someone out there is paying up for him while we're clearly not interested

I'll say he's coming back. I think both stamkos and hedman get re-signed before it all gets started. Someone will need to go tho.

If Stamkos hits free agency, wouldn’t we lose the ability to offer an eighth year? We’d really be out of the running then :help:

Tampa was never getting two top 6 F if spending big on defense happened. Only if they had spent around half or less what they did on defense would 2 real top 6 F be available. It's now sign Stamkos and a couple of 1 million or so depth F, let Stamkos walk and spend the likely 5.5ish on a ufa top 6 F and still fill in the other F spots with lesser aav contracts, or let Stamkos walk and sign 2 middle 6 F types that equal around 7ish total. Since the team needed improvement on defense quite badly, them ever being able to add/re-sign two legit top 6 F wasn't a realistic scenario.

But again, $5.5M isn't enough for a good Stamkos replacement. Let alone someone who is gonna make up for the fact we now have a glaring hole in the top 6 with no more money to spend.

Pretty clear that both sides have their best offer on the table and are waiting to see who blinks first. I'd say we offered 4-5 over the same number of years, and he wants 7-8. Clearly I have no way of knowing that, but just a guess.

Ultimately he signs elsewhere when someone throws him 8-10.

I think the idea is to replace our outgoing offense with better defense. 40 less goals (which will be less when you throw in whatever his replacement scores) isn't a big deal if you allow 80 less goals because of it. Arbitrary goals given up, but you get the point.

What contenders can actually pay stamkos 8-9 million per year ? Florida if reinhart leaves ? Boston, Toronto rangers? I don’t see him going to the ducks a rebuilding team or don’t see him going to Detroit

Everyone here keeps saying "let Stammer walk and use the cap to sign top 6 players or depth"

As if we can replace the Stamkos production with two 3mil contracts. No one here is even mention potential/smart players to pick up. There's no guarantee we even sign those players to begin with, specially if they're top 6 guys. They ain't coming here for 2mil.

We can speculate all we want about what happens if Stamkos is not signed. Until the buyout lists are known, we have no clue who is or is not going to be available via that route or free agency.

What we do know is Tampa Bay does not have a lot of Cap Space to offer one way or the other.

If Stamkos signs for the "sweetheart" deal some have mentioned, that leaves a couple million to fill out the roster which will very closely look like what has been used and failed the last two seasons.

If they let him walk, that gives more space to use but leaves many in the fan base unhappy and potentially gives them scapegoats not named Jeannot to blame any and all failures on moving forward, regardless of how the high-priced core players do or do not perform.

This is why trading Sergachev is the best step forward.

Also why we need to trade Sergachev.

We cant run "status quo but maybe worse" which is what we will get if we try to go as cheap as possible on depth in order the keep Stamkos. We need a major move to both bring in pieces and free up money.
