thats the problem ..he gets 3 assists- (basically closes his eyes and throws it at the net from blueline on two of them ) and guys who never played the game before start talking the Norris ..haha. Its so goofy. Guarantee you the Vancouver coaches anrnt talking Norris

Can you name me a year when the leading scoring defenceman of the year isn't considered a top Norris candidate?

Or does this just applies to Hughes since you seem to have some insane amount of jealousy of him

Hughes is a good young defenseman. But he isn't elite.

He doesn't even play the penalty kill.

To me, you can't be considered an elite defenseman when your SH TOI per game is 0:03.

Hughes is hard to rate. Offensively he gets great grades but his defense is so weak it’s tough to reach a final valuation. Add in the fact people value O and D differently and you end up with a wide range. So it’s best to just enjoy the entertainment he provides on both sides of the puck.

Yeah. Maybe sometime in 10-15 games when the Canucks are on a 5-on-3 PK with 2 defensemen in the box for 4-5 minutes, and they are forced to use Hughes on a 40 second PK shift.

That is pretty much the only way his coach trusts him defensively enough to play SH.

Your definition of elite defenceman is the mold of a dinosaur. Elite defenceman are transitional defenceman that can retrieve the puck in their own zone and move efficiently to the offensive zone. That's how you play good defence.

An elite defenceman isn't acting like a meat shield and blocking shots on the PK.

Well, I don't even really know how people rate him in the first place, but is a great defenceman yet? I'd say no. Much like Rasmus Dahlin, QH seems to recieve most of his points from secondary assists where he just stands on the blue and gives easy passes to a better play that does a great play which ends up in the goal.

He is far from the likes of Karlsson, Burns, Klingberg, Hedman, Doughty, Josi etc that create most of the chances and goals themself by great passes and reads.

Completely disagree. He’s been Vancouver’s best player. The defense will get better but he’s an elite talent. There is nothing overrated about his speed, hands and IQ in the O-zone
