I think that was more to insulate Holl than to insulate Rielly. Holl has been attrotious. If I had to bet I would say both Dubas and Keefe trying to justify their decision. Everytime Holl is on ice I get chest pains. Not only was Holl a disaster in the playoffs just look at his stats. They don't look as bad as they did due to Brodie

Chest pains, when you put your number 7 into the top 4.

All I’ll say is I really look forward to Rielly-Lilly pair as they develop together moving forward - a few games in and I’m liking what I see already.

Remember when the year when Sandin was drafted, every trade proposal included Lily. I remember. You people better be eating your crow now.
I thought I heard somewhere that Dubas offered Liljegren instead of Durzi in the Muzzin trade. He's the one that has to eat crow?

Also he was a healthy scratch in the playoffs vs Tampa.

Keefe needs to eat crow?

Rielly somehow still hasn't learned how to defend a 2 on 1. I don't think I've ever seen him successfully break up or at least disrupt a 2 on 1, every single time he's flopping around in no mans land, taking neither the pass or the shot. Great offensively, even good defensively but he cannot defend odd-man rushes for the life of him.

I think in a year or 2 Lily will surpass him, he looks every bit as good offensively and even better defensively and obviously is much younger.

Like Rielly, Liljegren is himself a former 1st round draft choice (yes, 5th overall versus 17th overall). That said, I wouldn't exactly be giving Rielly's workload/minutes to Liljegren just yet while hoping for the best.

You guys are forgetting that lily was one of the best 17 year olds on the planet in his D - 1 year and got sick and didn't play much in his draft year. He's always had great potential and now hes really showing it!
Who are these "you guys" you speak of?

I believe the deal was Liljegren straight up for Muzzin or Grundstrom, Durzi and a 1st. They chose to keep Liljegren since we didn't have a blue chip D man in the pipeline at the time.

Liljegren: Has a great night

HFBoards: Is this our new #1 defenseman?

Rielly is likely to remain our most used defenseman. Liljegren's all-round ability might make him the heir apparent to Muzzin, which is the #1 defensive duties. Lilly looks like he's putting his game together and oh boy is it promising, can't wait to see where it goes.

But but but.....he scored 2 goals in one game, so he must be better. That's how it works
Indeed. At least it works for people who ignore the fact that Lily was a big part of the first two goals Vegas scored, which is ironic since the people knocking Rielly are always going on about his defensive gaffes.

I had a peek at the GDT for laughs at one point last night and was rewarded with a laugh. The score was 2-1 and the awesome comment I saw said this (paraphrasing):

If it wasn't for Lily, the score would be 0-0. :biglaugh::biglaugh:

He's looking good indeed. Sky's the limit for Lily, best case scenario is that he ends up being a tier above Muzzin. A bit less physically imposing perhaps but a much bigger contributor on offence?

Lily has it in him but last night was not his best folks .. shooting wise yes but his defensive game was average at best .. but I can see how he will become our #1 in 2 to 4 years .. Rielly's defensive game is not getting any better and Lily has grown exponentially since day 1 from Marlies days

Liljegren has always, and continues to have very good potential. It's far too premature, to even guess if he'll be a better D than Rielly. Of course, being better defensively isn't a very high bar, but offensively would be very difficult. Rielly has some elite qualities to his game, that I'm not sure is in Lilly's tool box. That said, overall... who knows, but a couple of good games are too soon to anoint him King.
