From his actions, Kutcherov seems like that guy who has to be cool because he's sooo jaded and cynical about life. It's an attitude he lives, so he's good value for it, but the smirking, mocking and trolling is rather out of place for an event that's primarily held for kids.

For what it's worth, he'd probably mock the event even if he were some borderline NHL player, so he's being honest with his values.

I'd say anyone with a little wisdom wouldn't find his behavior very appealing, but there's not a lot of those folks around these days. It's kind of funny to watch because the All Star product is truly lame unless you're a young fan (which is of course the target audience), but again, being soo cool that you're trolling kids says a lot about your personality.

Or who knows, perhaps he's deeply uncomfortable being in front of people and this act is the best cover he's come up with?

No horse in this race, as I'm guessing the NHL would have known in advance his opinion on the event. It's not like he hides stuff like that. Don't invite a bitter, cynical "dude" to a public display of shmaltz and then be outraged things don't work out how you had hoped. lol

Wicked good at Hockey.

Definitely the first guy to ever not give a blatant crap about this all star weekend. I mean players don't ever pack it in for these things...

First guy to blatantly sandbag the competition through pure sloppiness and laziness, first guy to get booed, first guy to mock the fans for booing his bad attitude. At All Star Weekend for crying out loud.

Thinking this behavior sucked is not some controversial stance. Nobody is forcing this guy to be a professional entertainer and participate in lavish weekends where he can make a million bucks for a couple of minutes’ easy work. There’s no good reason for a grown-ass man to behave the way he did in that context.

No reason for grown ass men to get worked up over a skills competition. Here we are 18 pages.

It sounds like his biorhythm is off. He needs a month off, and some visits from an unlicensed sleep therapist.

I think this is sort of cultural too. We, eastern Europeans tend call something BS when it's BS and act accordingly. The west will at least pretend to care, most of the time.
Not calling either approach better or worse, just throwing my two Czech crowns in.

I, for one, love Kuch even more now, but I never really cared about the kids to begin with.

I think there are a lot of hockey players whose behavior is worse but they don't get as much criticism. especially if they play for Edmonton and Toronto.

Oh no he was 15 seconds slower in the skill competition than he could have been. What a terrible person. deserves criticism and a 20 page thread. You are looking for any reason to be offended and making a problem out of nothing. It's jealousy and nothing else. That's why 80% hateful comments come from Leafs and Oilers fans.
Are you suggesting that no one dislikes Evander Kane or Mitch Marner/Auston matthews? I think you better check that victim complex

That’s literally what pro hockey fandom is.
Yea but I get it if it's like a real game but like a skills competition? The players normally don't gaf about this weekend evidence in their play of past ones. Just because he's a little more blatant about it means we gotta make a 18 page about it and be outraged about him? This feels like it has more to do with hatred of the player than it does of what he actually did. People are justified to hate him but let's just admit it's that not because of what he did at the skills competition. Alot of fans that has been beat by his lightning. I feel like this wouldn't be a big deal if it was someone else.

To be fair he was booed before even he started his first drill :D

If it were any of the other players doing this it would be just about the same reaction. I’ll grant you that maybe it being Kucherov stokes the flames a little bit more but he still acted like a jagoff for blowing this off. There’s a reason he was booed and it’s not because of Canadians being crazy hockey fans.

Kucherov has been one of my favorite players to watch the last 6 or so years and this was really disappointing to see him acting better than this event to where he can’t be bothered to try. If you don’t see what he did wrong then you don’t see what he did wrong, fine. But don’t be bothered by fan’s soured opinions of him.

I literally could care less about Kucherov or Tampa. He’s just the guy that chose to be disrespectful. I am sure some dislike him but it’s probably far less a factor than you would like it to be. It was a douche move and he got called on it.

Can you imagine explaining this to a non-hockey person?

"What did this Kucherov guy do to make everyone so mad?"
"He was in the all-star skills competition and didn't try hard at all"
"Ah the all star game must be a big deal?"
"Well this wasn't even the all-star game, it was the skills competition before the game"
"Oh that must be an important competition"
"No, not really, it's pretty laid back, guys are having fun, its just an exhibition"
"So the other guys all try really hard then?"
"Well not really, but they make it look like they are"

You aren’t very good at explaining things.
