Nashville was an expansion team...

does that change the fact that it took 12 years to win a series?

2005 they are a 106 point team and have Rinne, Webber, and Suter. (That is one heck of a core by anyones standard)
with them (from 2005), he still didnt win a round for 6 seasons.
so, who cares that they were an expansion team ...with them Trotz won a grand total of 2 playoff series in 15 seasons. (7 times in the playoffs) with 5 1st round exists.
by year 6, they were a 90+ point team.
...and Trotz is a gold standard as far as coaches go. :(

It doesn’t change the facts, but it does put them into a proper context.

Trotz helped turn an expansion team into a good team very quickly, but the roster wasn’t particularly good. Yes, they had a good goalie and a couple good defensemen, but that forward core was a joke.

You think that is somehow comparable to Keefe walking into a team that was already a supposed contender?

As soon as Trotz got a contending roster, he won the cup.

His job should be on the line, but it is not. Not even close. His good buddy Kyle Dubas is going to do everything he can to protect him.

No matter how bad this season gets, Keefe will not be fired under any circumstances.

I agree I think he flew down to Raleigh to give Dubie notice .. my guess 10 games left for him .. if it can't be turned around then Shanny takes over as GM for balance of year .. Keefer may stay in place as Shanny assesses players directly himself
He went to Carolina? Didn’t know that, wow.

The switching of so many lines and pairings makes me wonder if Keefe is getting desperate - starting to panic.

No. Dubas dumpster-dives for 5-6 new starters every season. As any coach knows at any level, pretty well the entire roster has to be together as a unit for more than one year in order to achieve team cohesion. So, Keefe must again suffer as he lets time pass before this crop of players gets comfortable with each other.

Pray tell, where did your hear this? I believe he is way over his head & more concerned with being the players friends than their Boss... so I hope your statement is true. Wuth Reilly we now have 60% of the pie on 5 players! Unreal....

Believing this is to assume that 1) Dubas is the only one that has a say in the matter (or has final say) and that 2) if Dubas believes his own job is in jeopardy he'd rather be fired than fire his "buddy".

Dubas has a boss who has a boss. And if either of those bosses tells Kyle that "something has to change" then unless he wants to be out of work, something will have to change.

5 players on the 2019-20 Tampa Bay Cup winner were not there in 2020-21.
12 players on the 2020-21 Cup winner were not on the 2019-20 roster.

It is not unusual to have 5-6 player turnover on a team.

What is unusual this season with the Leafs is they seemed to develop forward lines and defensive pairings from last season and through preseason. And he's chucking that out the window at the moment.

I understand that they're underperforming but this is almost a total flip- nobody is with anyone familiar or very familiar.

He's pairing the top dman in TOI this season with the lowest dman in TOI. Did it take until the 8th game to see the 7th dman in TOI deserved to be on the 1st pair? And why was it transitioned.

I'm a little worried he might lose the team.

No idear what was said .. but when a prez makes an unexpected trip somewhere to visit his GM and does not do it on a phone call which is much easier then you have to ask yourself why? .. now it appears as if it may have been to discuss and/or approve da Rielly signing and what leeway Dubie had to finalize negotiations .. maybe he wanted those discussions in private for whatever reason .. given how things played out that would be my bet right now in hindsight

Consistency in play has been there issue for a while and yeah it’s been nice how they played the last 4 games but I want to see more.

End of the the day doesn’t matter to me what they do in the regular season as long as they get in. I will judge then based on playoffs.

Still doing record updates there Pook?

Time to close this..we can talk if we exit after the first round în the playoffs

You act like because they've won 5 in a row it's smooth sailing from here until April?
No doubt Keefe is safe right now, maybe he always was, but 100% this team will go through another tough stretch and this talk will heat back up again.

Or did he wake up and realize he gets to decide the lines, not Marner's dad? Either way, it shouldn't take years and piles of humiliating losses to figure it out.
