Didn't we block Drury from interviewing for the Buffalo job a couple years ago? Maybe that's because they knew his career path had him ticketed for GM here within a few years.

Yes he does and I would worry about Messier coming in with an agenda that's counter to every thing we've done the last couple years. Chris has been here and every step of the way of the retool/rebuild. There's no point ****ing around with it now.

Yeah for sure, but you're also overstating just how much play Messier has gotten when ever there has been an opening.

He got an interview when AV was hired, thats it. No mention for the GM spot when Slats stepped down, no mention for the coaching vacancy when AV was fired, never gotten a sniff here in any significant FO role....

Him leaving concerns me because he has Dolan’s ear. He always deferred to Glen, for right or wrong, on anything hockey related. Who knows how the next person in his role gets along with Jim and how it impacts hockey ops.

Sather will always be looked at with a lot of negativity for things he did during his tenure here but I can’t help but think of the saying that the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t.

The only plus from that is that i wont have to hear my co-worker continue crying about how Sather is ruining the team

And i’ll echo what a few others have said, it makes no sense to bring someone from the outside, promote internally to someone who has been apart of the rebuild process. This is a very delicate time and we dont need someone coming in trying to change the course by either speeding things up/slowing down or just straying off course.

JD wouldn’t surprise me. Someone that Dolan is very familiar with.

I’m not sure internal is the way to go. For the state of Hartford alone, I’d question Drury and Schoenfeld.

Being part of the team that wrote the letter isn’t enough for me.

I feel like most Ranger fans outside of HF, think Sather is still the GM. Anyway, most of how I feel about this has already been said on here. New guy must be in step with what we have done the past 2 years with the tear down and accumulation of prospects and be on board for the future hardships. If they have their own agenda, i'd be very worried. It has to be someone that can have excellent communication with Jimmy D. Give it to Gorton if he doesn't mind. Rather did dual roles. Drury handles more responsibility. JD might have been perfect if he didn't have a job.

as long as the replacement is on board with the current plan and process i'm good...

What experience does Messier have? None.

In 2011, Sather elevated Gorton to AGM. Not Messier.

in 2014, Messier left the organization after the Rangers didn't want to hire as head coach.

In 2015, the Bruins wanted to hire Gorton as their GM. The Rangers said no. Later that summer, Sather stepped down as GM and elevated Gorton to GM. Sather didn't pick Messier to replace him.

Messier is going to be hired as team president to oversee and evaluate Gorton's job? No.

I like how you first argue that the president doesn't actually do anything and in the next post rant that messier doesn't have the experience to know how to do that job

Not sure Graves wants that kind of position. It certainly not where his background has been.

Agreed. We need to go outside the organization for this hire. Might be a good opportunity to shake things up.

I don't hate the John Davidson idea being floated around.

This could turn into a real disaster because, for all his faults, Sather did have the ability to keep Dolan at bay.
