Is Auston Matthews the best player in the world ?

I think McDavid is firmly first. His contribution in the stat sheet outweighs the negative he is on D and is more than Matthews on offense and defense.

But don't even get me started and compare him to guys like Draisaitl, Eichel, MacKinnon, Pettersson etc. Matthews is quite easily the second best player in the league.

Best goal scorer + best D from the young superstar C's >>> everyone besides McDavid.

No I am saying even though he's a pretty big negative on D compared to Matthews, his offense outweighs that. 500 points in 370 games is kind of ridiculous.

I think McDavid is a better player but he really needs to learn to skate fast both ways not just one. I wouldn't trade Matthews to get McDavid.

No I wouldn't. As much as I like McDavid, the Leafs the way they are constructed are a better team with Matthews than McDavid and have a better chance of winning the Cup.

I am sure he'll end up on the Leafs in UFA anyways.

There's little to no gap in my mind. McDavid has the edge in points and speed. But Matthews has the edge in goals and defense.

I never, ever, ever thought Auston Matthews would be this good. But he is. He's probably the best Leaf in history at this point. He's such an unconventional player, too - he has a real individuality about the way he plays the game. He's a f***in artist out there.

Is he the best player in the world right now? Well, so far, what would you rather have -- Auston Matthews at 29 points, or Connor McDavid at 32?

Are the things Matthews does that McDavid does insufficient to bride that 3 point gap?

Whatever the answer is, it's gotta be in the argument. Sorry haters.
