Can't tell me these guys don't read this forum or at least have someone keeping tabs.![]()
Even though this is on our own board, and even though Matthews is something unreal, this is an embarrassing thread.
I never, ever, ever thought Auston Matthews would be this good. But he is. He's probably the best Leaf in history at this point. He's such an unconventional player, too - he has a real individuality about the way he plays the game. He's a f***in artist out there.
Is he the best player in the world right now? Well, so far, what would you rather have -- Auston Matthews at 29 points, or Connor McDavid at 32?
Are the things Matthews does that McDavid does insufficient to bride that 3 point gap?
Whatever the answer is, it's gotta be in the argument. Sorry haters.
Matthews is the best leafs player I have ever watched, no doubt about it. But, McDavid is to f***ing good. No shame in being the second best.

Exactly. McDavid is a tier above. It’s almost like McDavid is good at this hockey thing. Matthews is a great hockey player. McDavid is on another level, and that’s no disservice to Matthews.
McDavid is certainly having a night.turn on the oilers game
Yeah he is up to 12 now, he is doing well.. lolMcDavid.
Mackinnon getting in on the action with a beauty tooMcDavid is certainly having a night.
MacKinnon has 4 goals this season though. He is not in the conversation.Mackinnon getting in on the action with a beauty too
For sure has had a down year. IHaving said that I would not bet against him catching fire at some point, he's too talented not to. They've only played 12 games and the guy has had 3 straight seasons of over 90 points, not to mention is money in the playoffs. I have Matthews at 2 but Mackinnon is firmly a top 3 guy in the league for me.MacKinnon has 4 goals this season though. He is not in the conversation.
For sure. I had him #2 in the league up until last season. For sure has had a down year. Having said that I would not bet against him catching fire at some point, he's too talented not to.
Mathews needs a hatrick next game to tie Gretzky's record 21 goals in 20 games to start the season.
Ovi and Crosby''s fastest 20 goals to start a season came in their 22nd game.
yeah but has he scored 20 in 20? lolMcDavid had 3 straight 100 points seasons in his first 3 years in the NHL. He was stuck on 97 last year only because the season was cut short. He's pacing for 1oo+ points in 56 games this year... Auston Matthews' best season was 80 points last year and he wasn't on pace for 100. He hasn't even sniffed 100 points in a season in his NHL career.
The gap is significant, IMO.
Even though one of the horses is 10 lengths behind at the quarter pole. It's this generation's Crosby vs Ovechkin.
Be happy to have a horse in the race.
