His play just doesn't suit the playoffs very well. He's still a pretty good player, the problem arises because he's paid based on his regular season performance which means he should be able to carry his club in the playoffs, which he'll never be able to do.

I think if the Rangers break through he'll be an impactful player vs. Edmonton or Dallas. He struggles against physical teams like Florida.

I sometimes forget he's paid like a top 5 player in the league. I guess people not considering that a gross overpayment means that he's actually held status as at least close to that level player, which obviously hasn't been the case these past few playoffs. Of course, the sample size is small and he's a pretty consistent producer in the regular season so it's hard to tell if we truly overrate him or are just making conclusions based on selective data. I remember him being a solid playoff performer in Columbus.
He had like 3 good games with Columbus against Washington and was pretty poor the rest of the time in the playoffs

Last year Eichel was great,

this year he probably sucks according to most hfboard experts - reason? he didn't win this year .

What's with this year and if a player isn't completely dominate in a the playoffs he's labelled useless?

Oh, I think I know, whatever the narrative is in Toronto becomes the entire culture of hockey nation.

He reminded me a lot of Pasta’s recent playoff bouts until last night. Pasta for all the frustrations he brings when he isn’t scoring is still getting into dirty areas and battles even if he’s likely to lose them to bigger guys. I think Panarin went below the circles twice last game, guy does not want to be engaged physically and makes it even more obvious with his play. He’s a feeding frenzy for any defensive player with aggression right now.

People just undervalue zone entries. Panarin is one of the best at making that pass from the wall just inside the blue line, and he finds seam passes well. I think most fans struggle to see anything other than production and individual offensive battles.

He's a wet noodle and can't fight off players who attack him quickly and hard. The size isn't there and his foot speed doesn't allow him to break free. He's still a very good player. Probably one of the more underrated shooters in the league. Great passer. But, yeah, I just don't see him able to fight off anything in the playoffs.

he has been soooooooooooo bad this series

all he does is hang out at the blue line in the offensive zone.

That’s all he ever does, he is the world’s best bar league cherry picking talent.

Still fun to watch, great in open space, but I just don’t think him and Mika are leading forwards for a real cup contender. I can find myself saying that before these playoffs and last years’ as well. I wish I was wrong, but he’s a “can’t win with ‘em” type imo. Him, Marner, PLD, Petersson (currently), Huberdeau, put on ‘em on a boat bound for regular season matchups only.

Panarin is in the third round and hasn’t been eliminated yet. Why would you think this criticism is related to winning?

Why are you even bringing Toronto into the conversation? This talk has been going on about Panarin for the last few years.
We're always the conversation. We're why this site exits.

Yeah, when the Leafs are rebuilding the perceived value of draft picks is through the roof, when we're looking for a blueliner the perception of blueliner's value is off the charts.

So when we scapegoat Mitch for not dominated a series then everyone else gets called out.

NHL culture is down stream from Leafs culture and we both know it.

You‘re downstream from something. You might want to get your water tested.

So people are so obsessed with the Leafs core continuously failing to deliver that they carry this onto Panarin and the rest of the league.

At what lenght are you willing to go to make everything about your team?

The only playmaking wingers who have dominated in the playoffs in recent history are Kane and Kucherov, and both of them were also on teams that were far more stacked than anything Panarin has played on including 2024 New York when they won and not that much to show other years (Kucherov getting frustrated and cheapshotting his way to suspensions when the playoffs don't go his way is a meme at this point). Marner, Panarin, Gaudreau, RNH, even Rantanen wasn't see as their top tier playoff guy when Colorado won. Trocheck also doesn't really seem to mesh with him stylistically as good as he has been. Panarin-healthy Strome-Buchnevich would been a very interesting line to see in the POs.
