need an almost option

if he wins some individual awards and has more success, he might get in

I didn't make that claim, nor is it a relevant comparison.
It is.. Stone is better at defence than mcdavid and vise versa and I would expect that if you made a comparison by percentage between their peers they would be pretty similar in terms of offensive output difference.

Kevin Lowe:
4x Top 10 in Norris voting (5, 7, 8, 10)
0x year end All-Star teams
6x Stanley Cups

Alex Pietrangelo
4x Top 10 in Norris voting (4, 4, 5, 9)
3x year end Second All-Star teams
2x Stanley Cups

I absolutely don't think Kevin Lowe should be in the hall of fame, but he is. Pietrangelo's had the better career imo, so I'd say yes.
If you look at the weaker entries to be in the HOF to justify further weak entries, the quality of the HOF will just continue to dilute.

Do you really not see the difference between comparing 2 defenseman to comparing a winger and a center?

I think he could, but I’m not confident about it. He’s kind of been one of those guys who has regularly been in top 10 defenseman discussions, but I don’t think he’s ever been a real top 5, or has a big season to put him in significant Norris discussions. Those types can make it with consistency, longevity and team success. He’s on his way there with those but I think he’d have to age well from here on out, and even then he’d probably be waiting awhile like Zubov

Hes been perhaps the best defensemen in the league over a 10 year span. During his generation.

Theres only a few guys who can be argued otherwise. Doughty and Karlsson, and that's pretty much it.

Keith was from a prior generation of player. The new wave of players are from the next generation.

But during his era, i would argue Pietrangelo was the most consistent and best player over his career in his position. Him and Doughty being neck and neck.

And he should have won the Norris in his sophomore season. He was clearly the best defender in the league that season, but he was in a smaller market American team. Limited exposure, and was still new to the league. They gave it to Lidstrom, because of his name and not how he performed.

The Norris trophy is kind of a joke anyways. It shouldn't be used to evaluate HOF eligibility.

2 cups. One as captain. Bare minimum top 3 at his position for his career over his decade of prime.

He's a hall of famer

Yes. Legit 200 ft all around D. Fantastic with the puck, great defensively for a long time and extrmely smart. Add the 2 cups and the high Points per game and it's a no brainer for me. There are plenty of players in the hall who are in my opinion less deserving.

Probably should've won a norris but never put up an insane 65+ point season, partly due to playing in a low scoring Blues/hitchock system for most of his career.

Hall of very good. No individual hardware, good/great but not elite production at any point.

It's a rudimentary comparison but if winning two Cups was enough to make the playoffs there would be dozens of bottom six guys in the Hall (it's rudimentary because Pietrangelo is obviously not a "bottom six guy", but it still illustrates the point that having two Cups doesn't mean everything)

Consistently great in the playoffs; steadily in the conversation of top-5 overall d-men of the past decade. Led two separate franchises in ice-time during their Cup runs. Olympic gold. World Championship. Yeah - he'll get in. He's Doughty without the peaks and valleys, and DD is getting in.

Doughty has won a Norris trophy, that'll be the difference if/when Doughty makes it. He's also made the first all star team three times, compared to Pietrangelo's zero times. Doughty has had a notably better career.

He is going to be in the HOF and I am surprised this poll is trending for the no vote to win. Look at the longevity (and he's still going strong). Solid, consistent offensive numbers. Key d-man on 2 Stanley Cup champions.

Don't forget he has a WJC gold medal, Olympic gold medal and was on the 2016 world cup team that won. He is getting in.

Doughty was awarded a lifetime-Norris. His peaks were clearly higher than Pietrangelo's, but he's had some pretty sub-par seasons and earned the worst-contract in the NHL honor for a few seasons.
Pietrangelo has struggled for maybe a half a season twice over the course of his entire career. His consistency is remarkable and greater than DD's, and AP has produced at a higher offensive rate over the course of their careers as well. They're both smart defensively and Team Canada regulars. Same age, same impact on two Cup-champion teams. I'd venture to guess that they're held in equal regard around the league. I'm guessing Doughty will have the edge in the first 10-years of their careers and Pietrangelo the edge over the second 10 years. Both for sure HOF'ers.

You keep saying Pietrangelo is the same player without the "peaks and valleys" as if it's to be brushed away, but the peaks are what separate Doughty from Pietrangelo. First all star team nominations, better finishes in Norris voting (Doughty: 1, 2, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 19 /Pietrangelo: 4, 4, 5, 9, 14, 15, 16, 22). Same production (.57 for Doughty, .60 for Pietrangelo, although if you're gonna call out Pietrangelo as being better, I'm going to point out that in the playoffs Doughty is at .6 and Pietrangelo is at .55).

Without the individual accolades (first team all star, first all rookie team, Norris trophy), Doughty doesn't get in. Pietrangelo is what that looks like.
