Now that's funny. I seem to recall a couple years back when fans of other teams were saying over and over that there was no point to us keeping Panarin through the end of his contract and that we therefore needed to trade him to their team for Whatever We Could Get, and I would keep telling them that there was value in having him stick around because he can show the next generation what it takes to perform in the NHL. And nobody accepted that argument; they were too eager to poach quality players from us, as usual.

And yet...

How Artemi Panarin left an indelible mark on Blue Jackets forward Oliver Bjorkstrand
I just found it odd that in 2 years as teammates they barely spoke to each other.

They don't have to be best friends but it makes it sound like there was hardly any interaction.

Did Panarin speak English at the time?

Does Panarin speak English? That may have played into it if he doesn't.

Reputedly Panarin doesn`t speak English well even today. But I don`t know if it`s right or not.

I could be wrong but I think he speaks English better than he lets on. I think it has mainly been an excuse to not talk to the media.

Jackie knows the Jackets extremely well. I'm always impressed. We never get that kind of treatment from leaguewide media.
She definitely knows her stuff. She is way more than a piece of TV eye candy. Very smart and very beautiful. I really enjoy her hockey knowledge.

Found this outdoor game tidbit interesting though kinda disappointing.

Kuraly had one point-blank question for Bettman and Daly, one the two have been asked scores of times by Columbus’ ownership, management, media, fans and now players:

“Yes, I believe Sean Kuraly asked us about an outdoor game in Columbus,” Daly said.

Kuraly has played in two outdoor games with the Boston Bruins. On Jan. 1, 2019, the Bruins beat Chicago 4-2 at Notre Dame Stadium thanks to Kuraly’s game-winning goal. On Feb. 21, 2021, the Bruins beat Philadelphia 7-3 in Lake Tahoe.

“Their answer was that Ohio Stadium isn’t set up for plumbing in the winter,” Kuraly said. “Until that gets figured out, that’s what’s holding up Columbus.”

Just saw that on the main board.
It makes sense, I guess - but couldn't they be a visiting team for one of the events?

And does anyone think plumbing will ever be installed their to make it happen?
Or anywhere else?

I think a game against Detroit or Buffalo in Cleveland makes a lot of sense. Especially if we are better and one of them is better in a few years. So the question is what kind of plumbing does First Energy Stadium have?

I don't buy the plumbing excuse. They had an outdoor game at Progressive Field back in 2012 with OSU and Michigan. I doubt Progressive field installed a plumbing system for a rink just for one hockey game in 20 plus years. I am sure the drainage is fine at Ohio Stadium for draining the melted ice.

Is that what is meant by "plumbing in the winter"? I'm not sure what it means.
Not sure. I am just basing it on the venues that have had outdoor games that don't have the ability to freeze ice. They were all able to handle it fine. I thought the NHL supplied the ice making equipment, and maybe it was up to the venue to melt and drain it. I just find it hard to believe venues like Notre Dame, Fenway, and other older venues can do it, but Ohio Stadium can't.

You're right...I thought about it after my last post, and if they can host an NHL game at Lake Tahoe, where there isn't even a venue, they can set something up at Ohio Stadium.

Drainage should not be an issue. That is a standard need for a synthetic turf field. They seem to have spent tons of money on plumbing upgrades and enhancements for big spender suites. If the problem is that they turn off the water to the rest of the stadium bathrooms in the winter then it proves the university doesn't care about the middle class people who fill their stadium every weekend in the fall as long as they give their money. Even though the building is almost 100 years old they've done more than enough upgrades over the years. The band room for the OSU band is in the stadium, there are offices in the stadium. There used to be dorm rooms in the stadium.

If a 21st century solution to not upgrading the plumbing in the rest of the stadium is to turn off the water in the winter then their priorities aren't in the right place when it comes to upgrades there.
