I just had to post this picture in the jersey countdown thread on the main board. :naughty:

17 days until the start of the season!

On another note, according to a tweet from Portzline, the CBJ has hired a "team relations specialist" to try and keep players in Columbus. I'm not sire what tactic they'll take, but it seems to me if you have to hire someone to try and convince players to stay here, then maybe there is something wrong with this city.

Lots of teams have this, I’m shocked it took CBJ so long to get on board. If you read the article, A.Johnson is like a “concierge” setting up reservations, coordinating trips for the family, scoring tickets/experiences for the players, etc. I also imagine he helps them with finding housing, helping family transition to a new area, all that stuff.
It’s nothing specific or peculiar to the jackets that this position exists.

I'm not a subscriber to The Athletic, so no, I didn't read the article. But I know the acquisitions we made at the trade deadline a couple of years ago, a writer following the team did a story on a woman who worked for the CBJ whose job it was to do pretty much what you talked about. So I'm not sure what roles would be different with this hire.

Also not appearing was Winnipeg. So PLD's attempt to gain fame by playing "on a bigger stage" may have hit a snag.

It's pretty silly to think that the guy who was thrilled to go to Winnipeg last January was somehow confused about whether or not it was a big market. Everyone knows what Winnipeg is. His family is there.

Yeah, it's not a big market, but you are the biggest show in town there. And it's a hockey city - you will be more of a celebrity around town there than in Columbus I would imagine.

I'm surprised too. I know long ago it was an issue.
When Filatov came over he was subleasing Zherdev's old condo and no one though to turn on cable or wifi (and yes I know it should have been his agent). The kid was literally sitting in the hallway when camp started borrowing wifi from his neighbor (and before a mod asks, I lived in same building and Zherdev condo was right beside the mail room in the lobby).
There were other more concerning things like Svitov's young daughter had a medical emergency and his wife/fiancee (not sure if they were married) had no idea what to do and had to run down the hall screaming for help (again I don't think she spoke much English to start with, and in a panic situation like that it gets tougher), luckily one of the neighbors worked in the medical field and helped.
I know at the time Howson had his wife get together with other spouses of the players and set up a book and also exchanged phone numbers.
But just some of the crazy stuff from the early days of the CBJ and how at that point they did not set the Russian players (notably) up to be successful.

I’m confused. Haven’t there always been camera people on the ice in shootouts? I swear I thought I’d seen them rollout some carpet along the boards for them to stand before.

It’s not like I’m expecting some guy to be following the shooter in skates being a goalie distraction.

I think multiple on ice drones all game is what is needed. Can’t see that ever ending badly.

I support the idea of trying different cameras and angles, even if for now they are only experimented for such irrelevant events of the game as shootouts. The thing I'm more concerned about is the broadcast camera angle that is being used for real-time action during normal game play, and how it blocks the view of the puck when pucks are near the side board closest to the camera. I'd prefer to watch every game with an overhead view like in video games provided the picture is so sharp it is still possible to locate the puck and identify players on ice quickly enough.

Unfortunately, maybe you should be.

I've gotten used to that, but I wonder how difficult it would be to have cameras on either side of the ice, and a producer or director switching broadcast views depending on where the puck is.

It'd probably be quite difficult, but if it could be pulled off it could be pretty dynamic. Or disorienting.

Aren’t there cameras on both sides now? Cameras in Club and behind sections 114-115.

I couldn't tell ya, I'm just going off broadcasts where we are always subject to the near side action having the puck obscured by the walls. There very well may be cameras on both sides, but maybe they're not utilized much during game play? i.e. used for replays, but not live?

It seems like broadcasts are dedicated to one camera view, overall, with some variance, and that means the puck is often blocked by the walls.

Any guess what they're going to reveal this time?

"The Blue Jackets, under new President of Hockey Operations John Davidson, retool ahead of the 2021-22 NHL Season."

It says “so how did we get here” in the tweet. So I’m guessing it’s going to be the whole summer in review and things that happened behind the scenes during it all

1. JD hiring
2. Maybe Matiss ?
3. Jones trade
4. Draft and UFA
5. Training camp and preseason

So I’m going to guess this episode could be a bit of time in length. (20-30 min?)
