The problem is they needed to do more than not sink.

They were sunk by the stench against mostly bad competition before that. If they beat Vegas they will have traded water over what will be end of a very tough 11 game stretch which certainly isn’t bad results wise. If they lose it’ll be another 2 games under .500 which is not the end of the world, but they needed to make up more than that, ditto if they actually go .500.

I’m throwing my money behind Igor and last years presidents trophy winners before any of these other has-been or never-was teams racing for those spots. The Rangers would have to be dead and buried with 10 games left for me to not have a level of confidence they’ll make the post season.

I'm not.

I've seen the worst of what this group is and doesn't just go away. They also don't really have any easy pockets of games left. Pittsburgh and CBJ have much easier remaining schedules.

Plenty of games left against teams kind of jockeying for those same spots so thats a thing but I think a few of those teams are just objectively better.

I thought I read during the summer that things would be different during the season but I don't trust my memory. Regardless Driry moved 2 guys contracts that many on the board said were unmovable so I can't complain about the timing. NHL players need to be a bit tougher than that.
Agreed they need to be tougher, but they decided to mope around instead & tank the season for 2 months. Keeping Trouba around for that was the catalyst which Drury would have to admit was a giant mistake.

Rangers aren’t going to leave 8 million in their pocket. And Kreider screams LTIR case. We’re seeing improvement and there are 41 games left. They’ll buy and sell at the deadline and probably be a much better team just by nature of being rid of Lindgren.

Not a lot of assets we have on offer to trade for good players that won't completely empty our prospect cupboard.

This is true but there are some guys in the AHL who may have value, one would argue are redundant. I think Perrault is the untouchable they’d only trade for Brady T. But if a team calls about Mancini or Garand, let’s talk. I prefer to see Othmann get a shot in the NHL. He fits what we need in the lineup.

I don't know what did or didn't happen. I say that because the team started the season very well. If they were moping over Trouba almost being traded it didn't show. Then they were losing with and without Trouba. I just don't think we were icing a great lineup. They were soft, had some injuries and little depth. They are also soft mentally and when they hit sone bumps they panick. They are giving a better effort lately but its just not a hard team to play against. Too few fast physical guys. That has shown in their 5 on 5 game for years before the Trouba trade stuff. How many above average forwards are they playing? How many above average dmen? I always want to win but I still think they need some real all around talent added.

Yes of the main 3 core vets he’s been the best since Christmas break. We know he’s not this bad. His probably was always not shooting enough. He’s way too casual with the puck still but that’s a team wide issue.
I always thought it was Mika dragging down Kreider but now I wonder if it wasn’t the other way around all this time…

Vaakanainen is an NHL player which, like the 4th line, is saying a lot for a 6D in this league.

So many depth players are ass in this league. We're not the only team that's been obsessed over the years with guys that look like they're trying.

That's one very clear thing Drury is a million times better at than Gorton.

Guys like Carrick, Smith, Vaakanainen, Gustafsson, Mikkola, and Brodzinski could tie bullshit like McLeod, Haley, Lemieux, Rooney, and Hajek in knots.

Even Sammy Blais was an NHL player at the time, the trade just sucked as a whole.
Smith (for Goodrow) was a good exchange.
