According to Andrew Gross:

Boyle, Clowe, Dorsett, Staal, and Biron on ice for optional practice. Could assume Kreider is back in the lineup. One of the remaining 3 have to be in the lineup. Unless Torts () plans on playing Gilroy at forward.

Wait what? So they just played last game and now they're injured again? I'm so confused.

A good indicator of who is playing is who isn't on ice for optional practice. For example, Hank isn't on ice for optional so Hank would be playing.

Obviously this isn't set in stone, but since Kreider is not on ice for optional practice, he might be in the lineup today.

Boyle, Clowe, Dorsett, Staal are on ice for optional but they could just be getting more work in since they have missed so much time. If there was another defensemen on the ice such as Eminger, you could assume Eminger would be scratched tonight.

At this point in the season, participating in the optional is not indicative of whether a player is scratched or not.

Boyle and Dorsett need all the practice time they can get to shake the rust off. Staal and Clowe need all the practice time they can get to see if they're game-ready. We won't know who is dressing until closer to game time.

Does it really matter at this point? Pyatt. Asham. Even Powe who can PK. Torts is signing his own pink slip playing those guys over Kreider. Rangers management wants Kreider to play. Staal is still having trouble with the blurriness in the injured eye. Katie Strang tweeted playing Staal at home to get favorable matchups. From: @KatieStrangESPN

#NYR But assuming he is close, makes most sense to get him back in at home. Can get match-ups you want, familiar surroundings for him etc

Well management needs a reality check because Kreider hasn't been himself since the Orpik hit. I'd like to see him play and be effective but he's been just as marginal as those other guys, I don't trust him in the top six right now either.

Asham is the only scoring threat on the 4th line.
I disagree strongly that Asham is a scoring threat and Boyle isn't. Also another player from the top 9, who is a bigger scoring threat than both of them, will drop down to the 4th line as well.

Prior to that hit, Kreider had 1 goal and 1 assist in his last 19 AHL games. That hit didn't do that to him.

in just the 8 minutes of Ice in Game 1....he had couple real good chances/shots that JUST MISSED. Sure.....we can say that every game on many players, but Kreider has the speed, shot, and ability to finish. More so than over Pyatt's and Powe's of the world. Kreider can still make an impact if given the opportunity. Too bad it won't be with this knuckhead named Torts.......:sarcasm:

I think the problem with Staal is that Colin White told him to sit out until April 2014.

We don't want him to play with any discomfort. This is Hockey, not a tough every day work.

His problem isn't comfort, it's vision.

I thought you said you were done with this buffoonery?

Like when he had a chance to turn his jets on and go hard through the D to the net but decided to pull a Nylander and skate parallel to the blue line and fire a gimme at Holtby?

Didn't realize we were watching the AHL playoffs. Is it that surprising he went to the AHL and put up some points against guys closer to his age/ability? Yet he is ghosting in the NHL...

To address your other point shooting percentages,

.143

Both players had two goals, tell me which is which, GO!

I think you misread my point.

Possibly, two ways to interpret it I thought you were insinuating the Orpik hit didn't affect his game because he went down and performed well in the AHL after that happened... But I gotcha now you just mean he stunk prior to it :P

Nooo don't scratch Asham, let Pyatt sit, our 4th line has actually been good. If Staal is back scratch MDZ.

LOL what? Scratch MDZ and keep Eminger in? Are you high? Yes let's take our best offensive threat from the back end and sit him because we score too many goals and need more JAM!

Staal has been skating for about a month. He has tried clear visors. Colored visors. The vision is still blurry. He shouldn't play if he can not see properly.

You're daft, MDZ has been below average even for his standards defensively while Eminger has been quietly solid.

Oh and I like MDZ but both Stralman and Moore have been bigger threats than he has, if you don't see that I can't help you.

The lower shooting percentage is Boyle, because he obviously produces more shots.

Do you expect Boyle to sustain a 3% shooting percentage (career is 8.1%), or Asham to sustain a 14% (career is 11.0%)? When those shooting percentages revert to sustainable figures, Boyle will have a lot more goals.
