Staal's situation isn't a question of toughing it out like some NHL version of Derrick Rose. He CANT SEE out of one eye properly.

Part of it is Phaneuf's ******* personality. Beating his chest while his old man is up in the stands high fiving his pals. It's kind of like Chris Pronger or Scott Stevens--they doled out a lot of injuries during their careers and it's not disturbing at all that both their careers ended with concussions of their own. Karma.

Phaneuf couldn't shine Scott Stevens skates

exactly. legal or not is a matter of semantics and rules. i feel like an old man saying it, but there are just a lot of players who simply don't respect opponents. they run around looking to catch an opponent with his head down and blast him into next week. it's not really a hockey play. it's more like an nfl mindset. i don't really have an answer and i am not even saying there's anything special that should or could be done about it. it's part of the territory. but it still kind of sucks. i love a good hit like anyone. and that hit on sauer was only borderline dirty. phaneuf definitely charged sauer and was looking to murder him. it was not a 'hockey' play. but the point of contact was probably the chest and the helmet falling off was the main culprit. but i just would rather see things slightly more respectful. as eco points-out, there was a lot of back-slapping and preening afterword. like the wwf.
it's possible to play to win but also with respect.
i remember the devils series last year ended and a lot of people - not everyone, of course - but i definitely felt like i saw a great clean series where the devils just got the edge. i didn't feel too bad about it. had the rangers lost to the cheap-ass caps or sens, i would have felt a lot worse.

Could use some updates on Clowe's status, maybe Staal as well!!!! Would be nice to have Clowe serviceable, though fights are minimal in the postseason, he's a deterrent..

Doubt we see Clowe in a Rangers sweater again. Who knows when Staal will be back. Seems weird that he'd play for 1 game then sit out again. If his vision is bad enough to be missing the last 3 games how was it ever good enough to play the 1?

It's the Stanley Cup Playoffs... if Staal was healthy enough and able to watch the game from a skybox last night, he should have been laced up.

People need to research "JR Richard" the next time they want to question why an injured player says he's not ready to come back.

While having Staal back would be a big bonus; the Rangers really need Clowe against Boston.

So Clowe has a concussion? Is he done then? We need him...And I dont know but would love Staal too
