Injury Report: Injured Players Thread (3/6: Staal Out Indefinitely; Not Career Threatening)

It's one thing to lose one forward and one defenseman (albeit very good players). But with these two out long term, and DZ out, our defense is comprised of Staal, Gilroy, Stralman, Eminger, Bickel, and a call-up. And Nash is still iffy, Powe is out. This team is crippled.

I'd love to eat crow on this, but reality has set in. I'm not ashamed to be a fan. I will watch every game like I always do. I just don't see this team making the playoffs this year, as they were already in 9th before receiving these injuries.

Prove me wrong, Rangers.

Absolutely the ONLY reason I have some faith. Will be interesting to see how Hank handles this and if he can rise to the occasion and carry this team. He will need to be spot on from here on out.
 
I haven't lost hope. While I am disgusted that nobody stepped up and destroyed Pacioretty, it's still too early to label this a soft team. These guys need to watch the video. They need to be ashamed of themselves. Then they need to come out on Tuesday and start redeeming themselves. If that doesn't happen, it's squarely on two sets of shoulders--Torts and Callahan. If neither one of those guys can get a change in attitude after a game like that, then change needs to happen.

As for the injuries--they suck, but they aren't the end of the world. People like to point to Ottawa. I'd rather point to the 2011/2012 New York Rangers. When we found out that Staal would be out for a serious chunk of the year, we were pretty morose around here. That got worse when we lost Sauer. Do you remember what happened? McDonagh decided to be a hero. Girardi started playing at a level that we'd never seen before. Del Zotto (who we had penciled in on the Connecticut roster, thinking he was displaced by Erixon) went from disaster to Norris contender. We DID have injuries last year. Thing is, we also had a few heroes. We've got injuries now--time to see who wants to be a hero.
 
This lockout season really screwed us over. I'm fairly certain we will be a better team next season, when we will have a training camp, pre-season games, and more time for the players to get acclimated.

3 of our top 4 defenseman are out. Two of those look to be long term. Our most dynamic offensive forward is injured. That might be long term. Can there really be any heroes at this point?
 
This team has looked terible the last 3 games, even in Ottawa, if we don't take out Anderson, we are losing by a shut out. Team had no chance yesterday, even before MCD went down. now with Girardi out too, we have an excuse when we don't make the playoffs, but in in truth, this team was going nowhere fast with invisible Richards and Gabby.

This is true. But Stu Bickel getting top 4 minutes (which is where we are heading)... he has not had a defense that ****** in front of him... ever.

Unless McIlrath comes in at just starts playing like the next Chris Pronger, I agree this team will not make the playoffs.

Can't agree with that. in fact I think it gave players more time to heal. Especially Gaborik, and Nash.

Every team was on the same playing field. Can't use the lockout as an excuse.

Im one of the eternal optimists on these boards but.... yeah no overreaction

The defense we will be running with is All Star caliber (in the AHL), half of our offense is fresh out of hitting puberty, our 6.6 million dollar center looks slower than Gordie Howe did in his last game at what 55, and the only thing we have left of a year we will most likely not make the playoffs is a high 2nd round pick.
