Not sure if this was discussed but JD (CBJ president) and Jarmo (CBJ GM) were at both Avs games in Florida.

I hope the Blues get Miller. Avs won't beat them anyways, but it would be nice to see them give away some more futures. Of course Miller makes them the favourites for the Cup (if they're not already). Anyone know what Miller wants anyways? Cup contender? Team close to home town? Lots of money? I wonder if he would re-sign in St. Louis.

It'll be interesting too if L.A adds Moulson. Buffalo will have done alright with Vanek, ending up with a possible top-5 pick, and then another first round pick most likely. Maybe a long shot prospect too. The Islanders should try and recoup losses on Vanek. It would be cool if the Kings went after Vanek instead of Moulson, strictly as a rental.

Would you really want St Louis to go after Miller? Then they end up trying for Stastny in the summer if he makes it to UFA. That is not a team we will ever want to face.

Un nom à retenir pour une transaction: PA Parenteau de l'Avalanche. C'est évident que plusieurs équipes dont MTL regardent de ce côté.

Saying that PAP is a name to keep an eye on... Several teams including Montreal would be interested.

Hmmm perhaps in a larger package for Max and a D?

With Miller all I know is his wife is an actress or something so she's either from LA or lives there part time. Anyway, Miller wants to play on a team as close to LA as possible.

This is true. I know people may not believe it, but Millers Aunt lives in Boulder and is a long time family friend of ours. I see her regularly and always talk hockey with her. She visits her family in MI often and so she sees Drew Miller pretty regularly, as well as Ryan when she can.

She's said on multiple occasions that Ryan desperately wants out of Buffalo. Would obviously love to play for Detroit with his brother, but that won't happen. i mentioned St. Louis to her last week when I saw her because of the rumors and she nodded her head 'yes' as she knew what was going on and being said.

Another interesting thing - before the season stated I mentioned how there were faint rumors Roy was looking to trade Varly and others for Miller and others. She said Ryan would never want to play for Roy. She said as a goalie he hates Roy and the type of personality he has. Take that for what you want, but thought it was interesting. I'm sure Roy can rub some players the wrong way with his demeanor and competitiveness, especially another goalie.

A name to remember for a transaction: PA Parenteau Avalanche. It is clear that several teams, including MTL look that way.

Edit - Henchmen beat me to it. FINE!

I'm not sure they can get both. Miller will cost $7m too keep. Which would put them at 56m with 16 players signed. They would need a backup goalie so ~1m there putting them at ~14m for 6 more players. At that point they have to re-sign Schwartz, Sobotka, and Berglund... that combo will at least cost $8m, but could very easily cost $10 (Schwartz at 3.5, Berglund at 3.5, and Sobotka at 3). Say $9m, they then have $5m to fill 2 forward spots and a 7th D. Not enough cap room to absorb Stastny's future cap hit and fill out the team without shipping somebody out as a cap dump.

One name floating for a possible trade: Avalanche PA Parenteau. A few teams called and heard Canadiens are interested. We'll see.

I'm not sure the Avs have the assets to pull that off. Much more likely that the deal would be Gorges + for PAP. The + would likely be a solid forward prospect.

This sounds most likely.

Edit: or maybe the plus would be an experienced grinder with sending Wilson's contract the other way.

While I won't debate Max is the better player, PA has similar career stats and has put up similar if not slightly better numbers than Max the past few seasons. This is the only season he is not out producing Max and even then its only by a few points and having seen a lot of time on the 3rd line. So the Avs would need an asset or two that is worth more than Gorges to make it work.

i don't see MTL being after PAP.. they have plenty of smallish, skilled, one-dimensional players. well maybe MB and MT are losing it.

oh yeah, PAP is from quebec. that seals it.

Didn't stop them from pursuing a smallish, skilled, no-dimensional player in Briere this offseason.

Not bloody likely a deal w/Montreal happens, but personally I think Marc Bergevin is a moron, I wouldn't put anything past him. He has yet to make a megadeal and REALLY screw the organization, but when he does, just watch.

Pacioretty is cost controlled, is a 30g scorer, and is one of the only Montreal forwards with size. He is probably available as their is a rumored dispute, but they won't sell him off for a small, soft playmaker that can't play defense. It will be for a similar player in a similar situation... Evander Kane comes to mind.

I have the feeling that will be for Kane.... Something like Pacioretty + Collberg +...

Is Tinordi something the Avs would/should be interested in? Don't know much about him other than he is huge, and was a recent 1st rounder.

I think the Avs would go after experienced roster players, like Georges.

Trading PAP makes sense if the plan is to retain Stastny and ROR. A top 4 defenseman has to be acquired somehow.

Not to mention with PAP playing on the third line, it's much easier to find a top 9 forward in free agency than a top 4 defenseman.

As a plus in the deal I could see it, but the main target would be an experienced defensemen.

I asked Habs fans about Gorges a couple years ago. Thought he would be an excellent partner for EJ. I would love to have him. That either puts Gorges or Hejda with Barrie and it adds a very good penalty killer to the team.
