TSN radio is reporting Bergervin has called all pro scouts to Montreal for a meeting. Speculation that Brian Gionta and Josh Gorges might be traded.

I posted this in the thread on the main board, but I wouldn't be opposed to a Parenteau-for-Gionta swap. I just don't think it's a d-man coming back in a trade, I think Bergevin would be demanding more than just PAP if that were the case. Gionta would add a dynamic the Avs don't currently have. And he'd also provide some veteran leadership, if you're one who buys into that sort of thing. The risk is, obviously, that he doesn't re-sign.

Gorges is closer to a #4 than a #3 this year, but Therrien and his decision making isn't the best. His skill set is perfect to be the safe option next to Barrie.

That makes zero sense to me. There isn't much substance to Gionta's game anymore.

The only real issue is that we would still need a transition player. Barrie has not been good enough in that area IMO. Barrie is good in the offensive zone, and on the PP he has been adequate, but I think he needs to be better at moving the puck if he wants to be a top 4 guy. It will be interesting to see what Roy has up his sleeve here. I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of d-men come in.

It's possible this is just because Tanguay is back in and Roy didn't want to take out Cliche or Mitchell, but admittedly that's a reach.

It makes sense... they are looking for scoring in the top 6. Could use either RW or LW and make it work. Moulson is target #1 for them though.

Is he really only 5'7"?? We need size. I dont know much about him but getting smaller wasn't a goal I had for our team lol

I agree with this. Gionta doesn't really excite me. I feel he'd just end up a rental, and not a good one at that. I want to see us make a decent splash in the trade market.
